A Watch Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing watches, ensuring they are in proper working condition. The job typically involves tasks such as:
- Repair and Maintenance :
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, quartz, and digital watches.
- Replace or repair broken components (gears, springs, hands, crystals, batteries, etc.).
- Clean and lubricate watch mechanisms to maintain smooth operation.
- Assembly and Disassembly :
- Disassemble and reassemble watches for repairs or routine servicing.
- Ensure proper sealing and assembly to maintain water resistance and functionality.
- Quality Control :
- Test watches for accuracy and performance using specialized equipment.
- Inspect for defects, including damage to cases, crystals, and bands.
- Customer Service :
- Interact with customers to understand issues or service needs.
- Provide estimates and timelines for repairs or services.
- Offer recommendations on watch care and maintenance.
- Record Keeping :
- Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, and service history.
- Document customer interactions, complaints, and resolutions.
- Technical Skills :
- Use specialized tools and equipment such as timing machines, magnifying glasses, and screwdrivers.
- Keep up-to-date with new watch technologies and repair methods.
- Strong attention to detail and dexterity for handling small components.
- Knowledge of different watch movements (e.g., automatic, manual, quartz).
- Experience in working with various watch brands and models.
- Technical or vocational training in horology or watchmaking is often preferred.
