Research Engineer (Dept of Materials Science and Engineering)

The successful candidate will work with Barbaros Oezyilmaz and Dr Toh Chee Tat on lab support, sample preparation, and characterization under a project on the synthesis and application of atomically thin amorphous materials on the surface of 2D semiconductors as protective and seed layers. The main responsibilities of the position include:
  • Synthesis of multilayer MAC films on the surface of 2D crystals, insulators, and other substrates. Their analysis by Raman spectroscopy, AFM, and Ellipsometry.
  • Testing the application of ML-AC as a seed layer for ALD grown insulators.
  • Performing impedance spectroscopy to probe dielectric properties of dielectrics deposited on the surface of MAC.
  • Data analysis and physical interpretation of the results.
  • Managing lab safety, equipment maintenance, and operations.
  • Meeting key deliverables for industry collaboration.
Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in materials science, microelectronics, or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong verbal communication skills in English, ability to solve problems and generate new ideas.
Experience:
  • One year hands-on experience in a lab.
  • One year internship/research assistant or any equivalent in a lab.
  • First-hand experience with operation and maintenance of CVD reactors and vacuum systems.
  • Experience with electronics and the use of a clean room is desirable.
