We are looking for a Health and Safety (H&S) Program Manager who will be responsible for driving a systematic approach to delivering high-level, programmatic requirements of the AWS Safety Management Program (SMP), with a focus on defining the program structures, ownership, auditing mechanisms, policies and procedures necessary to formally measure, evaluate and improve individual and organizational H&S performance. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual with a solid knowledge foundation in safety management systems, local and regional safety standards, and a proven track record of designing & improving safety programs & policies. They will have a history of building partnerships with diverse teams across multiple jurisdictions. The candidate must have the ability to define clear requirements in ambiguity, proactively educate team members, leaders, and other support teams, and communicate effectively and consistently throughout all levels of the business. The role will evolve with the maturity and growth of the SMP and requires a high degree of flexibility, including the ability to deep dive time critical programs, manage compliance assurance, and deliver continuous improvement actions. Travel estimated at 35-50%. Key job responsibilities Execute a robust H&S audit program and establish and define audit mechanisms and metrics. Partner with business support functions to plan for and execute audits. Manage end-to-end audit projects and borrowed resources. Lead and/or participate in audits. Support a team of internal auditors to execute audits including on-site verification and self-assessments which provides objective, independent assurance on the effectiveness of the SMP. Facilitate and liaise with multiple stakeholders, including Operations leaders, to mutually accept audit findings and appropriate corrective action. Draft clear and concise audit reports within agreed timeframes. Guide management on appropriate corrective action. Follow up on audit recommendations to ensure appropriate corrective action has been taken to resolve identified deficiencies. Perform analyses of audit outcomes to identify trending issues. Report on key metrics and make recommendations for process and system improvements. Highlight, and provide corrective action solutions for, hazards outside of a defined audit scope. Partner with the SMP team, DCHS and HS Legal to create a continuous loop of feedback that will continuously improve the SMP. Support the design and delivery of internal auditor training. Earn trust of operations partners through proactive and continuous engagement to understand the business, identify emerging risks and educate. Other H&S program management duties as needed. About the team The AWS Health and Safety (H&S) team is expanding into a dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. The H&S team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS’s global safety programs. This includes defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards, tools, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by H&S teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon’s ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and H&S compliance strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring employee safety and compliance with H&S regulations. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 3+ years of program or project management experience. 3+ years’ experience in internal or external Health and Safety auditing. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 3+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience. Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials. Experience establishing successful partnerships with internal and external teams to execute tactical initiatives or equivalent.
