Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct anesthesia for routine and emergency surgical patients, resuscitate as a team member, and manage critically ill ventilated ICU patients.
- Conduct assessment & re-assessment for all patients in the OPD, on admission, and prior to any procedure.
- Provide anesthesia with the full range of anesthetic agents.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to nursing staff, other specialists, and registrars, as required, and provide orientation/training in new techniques and procedures.
- Interview patients scheduled for surgery to establish rapport and develop an anesthesia care plan, allaying fear and apprehension.
- Manage patients during sedation and during the recovery period from sedation and monitor documentation.
- See patients post-operatively to evaluate recovery from anesthesia, assess complications, and make recommendations as indicated.
- Supervise and maintain appropriate documentation on the controlled substances for the division in the Obstetrical operating theaters and main O.R.
- Keep current with new procedures and techniques in the field of Anesthesia.
- Take an active part in the teaching of junior anesthesiologists and other nursing staff.
- Conduct anesthesia services in appropriate dosages for all age groups in routine or emergency situations.
- Actively participate in CPR.
- Provide on-call emergency anesthesia services.
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with an MBBS degree.
- Postgraduate degree in Anesthesia (MD Anesthesiology) or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years full-time practice in anesthesiology post MD (Anesthesiology) or post-certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology or post Fellow of the College of Anesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons (FCA / FRCA) examination or equivalent.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the safe use of all general anesthetic agents, techniques, and methods currently accepted in the practice of anesthesia.
- Ability, in the absence of the Chief Anesthesiologist, to provide on-site assessment of personnel, equipment, and overall anesthesia environment.
