Job Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct anesthesia for routine and emergency surgical patients, resuscitate as a team member, and manage critically ill ventilated ICU patients.
  2. Conduct assessment & re-assessment for all patients in the OPD, on admission, and prior to any procedure.
  3. Provide anesthesia with the full range of anesthetic agents.
  4. Provide technical advice and guidance to nursing staff, other specialists, and registrars, as required, and provide orientation/training in new techniques and procedures.
  5. Interview patients scheduled for surgery to establish rapport and develop an anesthesia care plan, allaying fear and apprehension.
  6. Manage patients during sedation and during the recovery period from sedation and monitor documentation.
  7. See patients post-operatively to evaluate recovery from anesthesia, assess complications, and make recommendations as indicated.
  8. Supervise and maintain appropriate documentation on the controlled substances for the division in the Obstetrical operating theaters and main O.R.
  9. Keep current with new procedures and techniques in the field of Anesthesia.
  10. Take an active part in the teaching of junior anesthesiologists and other nursing staff.
  11. Conduct anesthesia services in appropriate dosages for all age groups in routine or emergency situations.
  12. Actively participate in CPR.
  13. Provide on-call emergency anesthesia services.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Graduate from an accredited school of Medicine with an MBBS degree.
  2. Postgraduate degree in Anesthesia (MD Anesthesiology) or equivalent.
  3. Minimum of three years full-time practice in anesthesiology post MD (Anesthesiology) or post-certification by the American Board of Anesthesiology or post Fellow of the College of Anesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons (FCA / FRCA) examination or equivalent.
  4. Comprehensive knowledge of the safe use of all general anesthetic agents, techniques, and methods currently accepted in the practice of anesthesia.
  5. Ability, in the absence of the Chief Anesthesiologist, to provide on-site assessment of personnel, equipment, and overall anesthesia environment.
  6. High standard of professionalism.
