Purpose of the Role The Finance Business Partner roles within BBC Studios work alongside key decision makers, providing informed insight and challenge to business decisions thereby influencing and shaping financial plans, future direction and choices through the provision of high-quality financial analysis. This role provides commercial financial support to the Asia General Manager and Wider Management team for the Distribution arm of our business (which includes Channels & Streaming, Content Sales and Consumer Business), leading the local requirements relating to the forecast, budget and LRP cycles for Asia, commercial decision support, strategic planning, and is the lead contact for CP&A activities – inclusive of coordinating consolidated regional plans, working with colleagues and directing support of Finance Analysts. Accountabilities Provide robust commercial support to the GM Asia to drive decision making and enhance performance, by developing a deep and thorough understanding of all lines of the Distribution business, and delivering commercial insights of new business opportunities and significant new deals/deal renewals. Includes financial analysis, comparisons to relevant benchmarks, scenario analysis, NPV and profitability/break-even calculations, with reference to business strategy, best practice, external market intelligence. The role will partner closely with other members of the Asia Leadership team, to deliver the daily operational financial support and rigour, alongside developing models and testing assumptions as the business revises its strategy to deliver the organisation’s ambitious growth plans. A key point of support to SVP Head of Commercial Finance, Global Markets, to deliver and support the finance strategy by driving a consistent and rigorous approach to forecast, budget cycles and long term planning across the region. Working closely with other regional Finance Business partners and Analysts, drive the consolidation of the same for Asia, where required to contribute to the Global Markets narrative. This includes identifying opportunities for simplification, harmonization and implementing the same Coordinate inputs for Commercial Planning & Analysis activities for Asia, across remote locations. Set relevant objectives that are aligned to the organisation’s key priorities and goals, agree and monitor development plans, and provide coaching and mentoring to other team members as required Deputise for SVP, Head of Commercial Finance for Asia commercial matters, as required Scope & Impact Commercial Finance point of contact for Asia, providing autonomous Financial leadership and support for this territory, escalating matters as necessary Holding a key role on the Asia Managment team, [RP1] working closely with and influencing senior stakeholders to drive and deliver business performance via the provision of objective advice, insight and challenge effectively acting as a catalyst for change. Collaborate with members of the wider finance community to promote best practice and deliver continuous improvement, with an aim to maximise the impact of finance Engage with wider teams to support the development of system tools and enhancing the approach to planning cycles and strategic analysis. Demonstrate an ongoing understanding of how to maximise matrix structures both for self and others in the finance team Work closely with regional members of Commercial Planning & Analysis team, managing activities of Finance Analyst resources as required (numbers will vary), some remotely located across the region Strategic Planning & Decision Making Provides commercial finance expertise and support to key decision makers and deal makers in Asia Responsible for advising and guiding business areas on wider spend for the territory Ensures decisions are guided by resource availability and regional objectives, strategies and priorities Ability to apply external industry knowledge, contextualising challenges and changes in the business environment, to understand the relative positioning and strength of BBC Studios’ services/practices. Remains informed of changes in the media and broadcast industry, and key third party developments, and impact on BBC Studios’ business Relationships General Manager, Asia Asia Leadership/Management team Reports to: SVP Head of Commercial Finance, Global Markets Direct reports: at present, none, but works closely with Commercial Planning & Analysis Analysts Regular (at least weekly) phone/email/direct contact SVP Head of Commercial Finance, Global Markets, Asia General Manager, APAC CP&A team, Local Sales and Distribution teams, Business & Legal Affairs, APAC Accounting & Reporting team, Financial Controller, APAC, Global Markets counterparts based in other locations – namely the UK, Brands & Licensing (UK-based), and (incoming) Finance Director, Content Sales Phone/email/direct contact with Strategy, Corporate Finance, Group Finance, Tax, Treasury Risk, Internal Audit, Business Intelligence/Systems teams as required Interface with external stakeholders such as key customers via phone/email and in person Occasional/limited travel within APAC region Knowledge & Skills The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following: Leadership Ability to think and act autonomously Commercial acumen and strong analytical skills Problem-solving and resolution Communication and presentation skills. Team management, development and coaching Strong Excellent Excel, Powerpoint and general computing skills.
