Job Title: Research Coordinator Workplace: Cividep India, Bangalore Reports to: Research Lead; Director, Research and Policy Advocacy; Director, Programmes About Cividep: Cividep India is a Bengaluru based non-profit organization with over two decades of experience working on labour rights and has field offices in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Our work aims to safeguard the rights of communities, especially workers employed in global supply chains. We focus on promoting corporate accountability and improving the conditions of workers in various industries, including the garment, leather, plantation and electronics sectors, among others. Our work encompasses research, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives to support workers' rights and empower communities affected by corporate activities. Summary of Research: The objective of the research project is to develop a systems approach to health and well-being of industrial workers, in particular women garment workers. The study will examine the Employees’ State Insurance Scheme (ESIS) as a system for potential universal healthcare to all workers. The study will apply a gender and intersectional approach to the ESIS in order to identify barriers to access and inform programmatic interventions. Position Purpose: The Research Coordinator will coordinate and administer a multi-site research project. The coordinator will ensure that the research project is conducted efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with regulatory standards. The coordinator will assist in project planning and implementation and will ensure that the pre-established work scope, study protocol, and other project requirements are followed. The coordinator will serve as the principal administrative liaison between the research team, study participants, and other stakeholders (trade unions, civil society organisation, academicians, government departments etc), managing the overall logistical and administrative aspects of the research project. Duties and Responsibilities: ● While the research lead is primarily responsible for the overall design and research investigation, the coordinator will support, coordinate, and facilitate the daily activities required for the implementation of the project. ● As a multi-site research project, the coordinator will be responsible for administration and implementation of the research study in two states – Karnataka & Tamil Nadu ● Liaison between the project team and funding agency, Government departments, Institutional Ethics Board , Consultants or other significant parties, ● Under guidance from the Research Lead and Senior management team at Cividep, undertake policy reviews, develop research designs, data collection methods and strategies for data management. ● Collaborate with the Research Lead to design, create and revise research instruments as necessary to ensure quality data that correlates with research objectives. ● Manage the scheduling of study visits; maintain accurate and detailed records of study activities, to safeguard the quality and integrity of research data. ● Assist in the recruitment, training and supervision of research assistants or other research staff as required. ● Promote research capacity building among trade unions, community-based organizations and groups. ● Coordinate the recruitment, screening, and enrollment of study participants, ensuring informed consent is obtained and documented. ● Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and institutional policies. ● Analyse data, write and edit reports and manuscripts for publication or presentation as necessary. ● Plan and coordinate advisory committee and/or peer-review meetings, consultations with stakeholders as necessary. ● Assist with the tracking and management of the budget and financial records for the project. ● Monitor the progress of research activities and write periodic reports, as required by the organisation, research lead, and ensure reporting to the funding agency in a timely and effective manner. ● Ensure the research project is in alignment with Cividep’s strategic priorities including, worker engagement, organisational learning, knowledge creation, and policy advocacy. ● Participate in project related travel and support research work for other similar projects and organisational initiatives of Cividep. Qualification, Experience & Skills: Doctorate or Masters in social sciences, development studies, public health, human rights or a relevant field . ● Proven expertise in conceptualising and executing mixed-method research studies in the field of social sciences, with a focus on public health, labour and gender. ● Demonstrated proficiency in research and excellent writing skills in English with the ability to produce clear and concise presentations, project reports and other advocacy materials. ● Overall knowledge and understanding of the structure and operations of global supply chains, particularly of the garment sector ● Ability to think independently and critically with a rights-based perspective on health and labour issues. ● Minimum 5 years of experience in public health research, advocacy and government relations , preferably with a focus on social security or labor rights. ● Relevant experience in project coordination/management including stakeholder communication is desirable. ● Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of Tamil or Kannada will be an advantage. ● Willingness to travel between Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and New Delhi as required. To Apply: Please submit your 1.)
