Classification: LEC4 – LEC5Salary Range: $122,540 - $133,250, $144,353 - $157,681Duration: Up to 2 yearsVacancy Type: Full TimeNumber of Positions Available: 1Closing Date: 11:30pm, Thursday 6 February 2025 About the Opportunity An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced practitioner to join the Government and Administrative Law Group (GALG) in the Public Law Section (PLS) of the Crown Solicitor’s Office as a Senior Solicitor. The successful applicant will join an enthusiastic team of junior and senior lawyers, led by Executive Solicitors Melanie Cattonar and Sean O’Flaherty. The successful applicant can expect to build a wide advice and representation practice on a variety of legal matters, including those that contribute to significant State government priorities and reforms, for the whole of South Australian Government, including Ministers, Departments, statutory authorities, and other instrumentalities. Senior Solicitors in GALG provide significant and sensitive advice on administrative law, statutory interpretation, and broader public law issues, and have opportunities to conduct litigation, including as counsel, in various courts and tribunals, particularly in the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Supreme Court. Senior Solicitors also perform a mentoring and leadership role within GALG, working closely with junior solicitors on matters as matter managers, settling work, and providing strategic guidance. The successful applicant will bring an enquiring legal mind, a willingness to contribute positively in a team-based manner, an ability to mentor and lead, and thrive in a busy practice with an engaging representation/advice mix. About the Business The Crown Solicitor's Office provides legal services to government specifically to Ministers, departments, and other public sector agencies. This includes providing legal advice, conducting a wide range of litigation, negotiating and drafting for commercial property and general commercial transactions, drafting and producing various legal documents, conducting summary prosecutions, Magistrates' appeals, and native title claims, and land conveyancing and investigation. Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Successful applicants will receive further information if an interview is requested. Forms are not to be lodged directly with SA Police (SAPOL) under any circumstances, and any fees incurred by applicants in doing so will not be recoverable from the AGD. Some out of hours work may be required. Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain an unrestricted practicing certificate within South Australia.
