Job Description: The Planning Engineer is responsible for the effective planning, monitoring, and control of construction project schedules. This role involves close collaboration with the project team, including architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. The Planning Engineer will specifically review and comment on contractor programs, identify potential delays, and prepare contractual correspondence related to schedule adherence. Responsibilities:
- Schedule Development and Review: Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using appropriate software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project). Review and analyze contractor-submitted programs, providing constructive feedback and recommendations for improvement to the consultant project team. Ensure contractor schedules align with project objectives and contractual requirements.
- Progress Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor project progress against the approved schedule, identifying any deviations or potential delays. Regularly update project schedules to reflect actual progress and forecast completion dates. Prepare and distribute progress reports to the project team, highlighting key milestones, critical path activities, and potential schedule risks.
- Delay Analysis and Mitigation: Analyze schedule delays, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Evaluate the impact of delays on project cost and completion. Work closely with the project team and contractors to develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimize the impact of delays.
- Contractual Correspondence: Prepare and issue formal contractual correspondence to contractors regarding schedule performance, including notices of delay, requests for acceleration, and other related communications. Maintain accurate records of all correspondence.
- Coordination and Communication: Facilitate communication and coordination between the project team, contractors, and other stakeholders regarding schedule-related issues. Attend project meetings and provide schedule updates and analysis.
- Resource Management: Assist in the allocation and management of project resources to ensure optimal utilization and minimize schedule disruptions.
- Claims Analysis: Contribute to the analysis of contractor claims related to schedule delays and extensions of time. Provide expert opinion on schedule-related matters.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving project scheduling processes and procedures. Stay up-to-date with the latest scheduling techniques and software.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project planning and scheduling, preferably within the construction industry.
- Proven experience in reviewing and analyzing contractor programs.
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies, contract administration, and project management principles.
- Proficiency in project scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Professional certification in project management (e.g., PMP).
- Experience working with architectural and engineering consultancy firms.
- Knowledge of local building codes and regulations.
