Job Responsibilities
- Perform meticulous decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical devices to ensure patient safety and compliance with health regulations.
- Utilize advanced sterilization techniques and equipment, such as steam, ethylene oxide, and hydrogen peroxide plasma, to maintain the highest standards of aseptic processing.
- Conduct thorough inspections of instruments for functionality and integrity before and after sterilization, ensuring all items meet quality control standards.
- Document and track sterilization cycles and outcomes accurately in compliance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with surgical teams to efficiently manage instrument availability and turnover during high-pressure surgical schedules.
- Implement quality assurance measures and participate in regular audits to uphold departmental standards and continuous improvement.
- Manage inventory of sterile supplies and ensure proper storage and handling to minimize the risk of contamination.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in sterilization technology and practices through ongoing education and training.
- Assist in training new staff members on departmental procedures and best practices in sterilization and infection control.
- Respond promptly to equipment malfunctions or discrepancies in sterilization processes, escalating issues as necessary for resolution.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in sterile processing is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) or similar environment is required.
- Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent is a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with surgical instruments, sterilization methods, and infection control standards is essential for success in this role.
- Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to follow complex procedures accurately.
- Effective communication skills are necessary to coordinate with surgical teams and ensure seamless workflow.
- Physical stamina is important, as the role involves standing for extended periods and lifting heavy equipment.
