Position Description The Technical Services Engineer will be responsible for the commissioning and long-term maintenance of BESS provided by Eneon ES to clients across North America. The 2 core functions are:
- Commissioning Services: Oversee the commissioning process from planning to execution and close out. Ensure that BESS systems are installed, tested, and operated according to Eneon's standards and client specifications.
- Operations and Maintenance: Assist in developing the Monitoring and Maintenance Plan (MMP) for commissioned BESS units; act as a technical point-of-contact for clients, operational teams, contractors, equipment vendors, and other relevant parties to the maintenance of BESS equipment.
- Work with a cross-functional team to commission, troubleshoot, and service BESS units.
- Create, maintain, and rectify punch list items found during Factory Acceptance Testing, Site Acceptance Testing or Customer Acceptance Testing.
- Proactively address maintenance events addressing the key reliability items streaming from systemic design issues, component reliability, and common breakdowns.
- Conduct analysis on process cycle-times and productivity metrics, maintenance spending and reliability data as well as state-of-the-art technologies.
- Devise plans for the strategic sourcing of electrical, mechanical and instrumentation parts while taking into account the buying of multiples, obsolescence tracking and warranty cycles.
- Schedule and provide general work direction to subcontractors.
- Provide cutting edge, efficient and reliable technical guidance and implementation to enhance system quality, performance, safety, and overall system operation.
- Cultivate relationships with clients and third-party resources to accommodate Eneon’s commissioning and maintenance needs.
- Implement process improvement tools and techniques to eliminate waste and optimize workflow.
- Research and evaluate alternative repair methods and technologies to reduce downtime and costs.
- Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
- Build expertise in BESS regulatory standards within, but not limited to, UL, CSA, NFPA, IEC, etc.
- Proven HSE mentality
- At least 4 - 8 years of experience in some or all of: industrial electrical power and control systems; 1500VDC and/or 600VAC electrical systems; PV and battery storage combinations; AC/DC inverters & DC/DC converters; QA/QC of electrical and comm. systems; PLC and automation systems; network communications
- A bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in engineering with a focus on software, electrical, and/or mechanical systems.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of electrical/mechanical designs, schematics,
- P&IDs, specifications, and codes/standards.
- Prior experience working with energy storage devices (electrochemical batteries, flow cells, fuel cells, CAES, etc.).
- Strong troubleshooting skills and prior experience with electrical diagnostic tools.
- Exceptional (written and verbal) communication skills.
- Demonstrated time management skills, including the ability to balance multiple projects under strict deadlines.
- Well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to travel within North America
- Knowledge of NEC, CEC, UL9540 and NFPA 855 standards considered an asset
- Prior experience working with renewable energy systems considered an asset
- P.Eng. considered an asset
