Job details

The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting process systems in an onshore gas compression plant. The role involves developing process simulations, equipment sizing, and ensuring compliance with industry standards to enhance efficiency, reliability, and safety in gas compression and transmission. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and heat & material balances for gas compression and processing facilities.
  • Perform mass & energy balance calculations for natural gas compression, dehydration, and associated processing units.
  • Design and optimize compressor stations, dehydration units, gas metering systems, and fuel gas treatment.
  • Conduct process simulations using Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, or ProMax to optimize compression operations.
  • Size and specify gas compressors (reciprocating, centrifugal, screw), coolers, separators, heat exchangers, and pressure vessels.
  • Develop compressor performance curves, surge analysis, and thermodynamic efficiency assessments.
  • Assist in the selection of gas treatment technologies, including dehydration (TEG/MDEA), slug catchers, and filter separators.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry codes and standards such as API 618, API 619, ASME B31.3, API 521, and NFPA 86.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, LOPA, and risk assessments for gas compression facilities.
  • Develop flare & relief system designs, including PSV sizing and depressurization studies.
  • Support plant startup, commissioning, and performance testing for gas compression units.
  • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks, compressor surge issues, and hydrate formation risks.
  • Implement flow assurance strategies to prevent liquid carryover, slugging, and hydrate blockages in pipelines.
  • Prepare process datasheets, cause & effect diagrams, operating philosophies, and control narratives.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and control system engineers for integrated plant designs.
  • Liaise with vendors, EPC contractors, and regulatory authorities for process approvals and equipment selection.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years in process engineering for onshore gas processing and compression projects.
  • Aspen HYSYS, UniSim, Pipesim, FlareNet, OLGA, and process modeling tools.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of API, ASME, ISO, NFPA, and local environmental regulations.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), Professional Engineer (PE), or relevant industry certifications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for cross-discipline coordination.
