About the Role

This is a key leadership position responsible for managing all activities within a food manufacturing site. The Plant Manager will oversee manufacturing and key support operations, ensuring a culture of continuous improvement, performance monitoring, and operational excellence. The role requires strong leadership, effective communication, and a hands-on approach to drive improvements in quality, customer service, safety, efficiency, and financial performance. Long working hours should be expected in this executive-level position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee health and safety compliance and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Lead and manage personnel through direct line managers and HR support.
  • Drive quality improvements , reducing FS and quality complaints via QA, TQM, and internal audit tools.
  • Implement Lean Manufacturing and TPM strategies to enhance production efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and 5S processes.
  • Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) , including:
    • Site OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and Attainment to Plan
    • Reduction in downtime and operational losses
    • Material waste reduction and cost efficiency improvements
    • Labour efficiency , driving an increase in Units Per Man Hour (UPMH)
  • Ensure internal supplier/customer relationships align with production and commercial expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with food safety, HACCP, and external audit requirements .
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between production, safety, quality, and maintenance teams.

Key Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a food manufacturing site or a team of 100+ staff .
  • Degree in Engineering, Food Technology, Baking, or a related discipline .
  • Certified in IOSH Managing Safely, Food Safety Level 3, and HACCP Level 2 .
  • Proven track record in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and production efficiency .
