Be among the first 25 applicants General Counsel and Company Secretary at Motor Traders' Association of NSW We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to provide a range of legal advice and services to both MTA members and the Management Team of MTA NSW. Reporting to the General Counsel and Head of Employment Relations, the Legal Counsel is the first point of contact for members to obtain advice across a range of legal areas. These include Consumer Law, Contracts, Property, Privacy, and Insurance. In addition, the Legal Counsel will assist the General Counsel in providing legal advice to various Departments within MTA NSW. This advice includes the review of contracts, advice on Intellectual property protection for the Brand and assets of MTA NSW, as well as commercial advice on contract management and business acquisitions. Furthermore, the Legal Counsel will assist in the drafting and compliance of MTA NSW with its governance and regulatory obligations. Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Provide sound advice and recommendations across all business compliance issues and assist the General Counsel in developing policies and procedures to reduce operational, commercial, and financial risk and protect the Association's commercial interest. Assist General Counsel in compliance issues relating to regulatory requirements of the Organisation across the Fair Work Commission, Registered Organisations Commission, ASIC, and Australian Electoral Commission. Assist the General Counsel and Department Managers in the negotiation of contracts with suppliers, contractors, and other parties to facilitate the advantageous provision and receipt of services across the Association. Support the Department Managers and General Counsel in the development of key policy papers relating to MTA NSW strategic objectives and operations as well as regulatory issues affecting the Motor Industry generally at both a State and Federal level. Providing commercially oriented legal advice and engagement strategies in respect of project-based activities and transactions. Providing guidance to the business in respect of contract management and legal compliance, risk identification and mitigation, dispute resolution, intellectual property, confidential information, and insurances. Assist General Counsel in managing external legal support. Facilitate the update of content on MTA NSW website ensuring all information reflects current regulation and legislation. Provide information and content into communications to members on areas of government regulations, and areas of law that affect the membership of the Association. Provide effective and practical advice to members across a range of legal areas inclusive of consumer law, commercial law, contracts, intellectual property, and Australian Consumer Law. Represent and attend NCAT on behalf of members in respect to consumer claims. The Requirements: Degree in Employment Law or a related discipline 3+ years’ experience Sound knowledge of legislative frameworks applicable to consumer law Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point Knowledge of the automotive industry and small business is highly desirable Knowledge of Employment Law is beneficial Experience in Litigation is of assistance Seniority level Mid-Senior level Employment type Full-time Job function Legal Industries Business Consulting and Services #J-18808-Ljbffr
