Strong Country Coordinator (Elders & Community) Nyamal Aboriginal CorporationLocation: Port Hedland, WASalary: $90,000 - $110,000 p.a. POSITION CONTEXT Reporting to the General Manager (Strong Country), the Strong Country Coordinator (Elders & Community) is responsible for coordinating and managing caring for country projects that support elders, facilitate language revitalisation, enable return-to-country initiatives, promote intergenerational knowledge exchange, and uphold meaningful consultation. The role also includes coordinating activities that involve Nyamal's female rangers, ensuring these align with the Nyamal Healthy Country Plan and the strategic objectives of Nyamal Aboriginal Corporation. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage on-country projects, fostering connections with Nyamal elders and community members. Ensure all activities reflect cultural values and priorities. Plan trips, manage logistics, and coordinate on-the-ground project activities. Integrate cultural knowledge into land management practices. Community Engagement Engage with Nyamal Elders and key stakeholders to incorporate cultural insights into program activities. Foster strong relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and other Aboriginal corporations. Field Coordination & Supervision Lead planning and execution of on-ground activities, ensuring alignment with cultural and environmental standards. Facilitate on-country work, including camping trips to priority areas. Coordinate and supervise activities related to language revitalisation and caring for country. Develop and monitor work plans, schedules, and budgets for field activities. Training & Development Drive the growth and capacity of the Nyamal Ranger team through targeted training and mentorship. Reporting & Documentation Oversee documentation and reporting of all program activities. Maintain accurate records of field activities and prepare regular reports. Manage budgets effectively and pursue additional funding opportunities. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Ability to navigate and adapt to a cross-cultural environment. Understanding of Aboriginal social and cultural challenges. Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills. Competence in using Microsoft Office applications. Strong team management skills. Current Australian Driver's License. Experience engaging with and supporting older people. Comfortable with camping on Country for extended periods. Understanding of safe operating practices and risk management strategies. DESIRABLE CRITERIA Preference for the position to be filled by a Nyamal person. Recognised degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience. Experience operating 4 WD vehicles in remote areas. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Experience with state conservation agencies or ranger programs. Demonstrated experience undertaking remote work. Competence in using GIS/mapping software. Current First Aid certificate.
