Principal Engineer

Designation : Principal Engineer Role : Architect As a software architect for the entire organisation, you will be responsible for all the architectural decisions and overall design of the systems built. You will report to the head of technology and will be his dependable and trusted advisor on technology. We expect you to truly value the opportunity and proceed only if you are genuinely interested in the education space that we are trying to disrupt. Required Experience and Skills

• 9+ years of experience in software development at growth phase startups.
• Problem solver at heart and data driven decision maker.
• Excellent knowledge on software architecture, application design and development.
• Experience in building and scaling systems using Java, spring boot, mysql, SQS / Kafka / amq, Redis, nosql dbs, web services and performance tuning.
• Experience in building ERP software products with decent knowledge on cloud infrastructure.
• Excellent communicator to propose and review designs in a remote environment.
• Experience in delivering end-to-end projects (0 to 1) with clear impact metrics.
• Experience in bringing clarity to vague problem statements and breaking down multi-quarter projects, with phased launches.
• Experience in building systems that has handled atleast 1 million users.
• Experience in building micro-services that have handled >100 qps in a live environment.
• Experience in leading / mentoring a team of atleast 5 developers for a minimum of 3 years.
• Experience in angular / reactJS would be a plus.
• Experience in enterprise SaaS would be a plus.
• Proven experience in utilizing AI tools and implementing Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, with a demonstrated track record of building AI agents or leveraging AI technologies in engineering projects would be a plus.
• Experience in building data platforms - data pipelines and data warehousing would be a plus.

Job Description

• Drive Digii’s multi-tenant SaaS software architecture to scale to 10M students.
• Measure overall system performance and tune it for perfection.
• Optimise infra cost with the help of the engineering team, backed by impactful cost metrics.
• Identify gaps in developer efficiency and onboard suitable dev-tools to increase productivity
• Build prototypes, with infra setup and setup framework for further development.
• Help the engineering manager to improve the SDLC process with technical inputs.
• Inspire and motivate the engineering team, while you mentor them to learn system design.
• Understand product requirements and help product managers craft non-functional requirements and come up with short term and long term solutions with high level estimates.
• Build integration platforms using the right framework / tools with multiple 3rd party systems.
• In most cases, the expectation from this role is to create and manage a self task list and time without supervision. The expectation is to timely showcase impact from their role with metrics.
• Help the head of technology to prepare the technology roadmap with long term design suggestions, tech directives and project plans to the management.
• Mentor lead engineers to come up with the best high level and low level design documents with impact areas and task breakdown with possible risks and constraints.
• Mentor junior engineers - review their code, unblock them on technical issues.
• Work closely with the engineering teams - Developers, QA, Devops, UX/UI, to ensure a cohesive development process.
• Communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders to explain technical solutions in simple terms.
• Constructively discuss with stakeholders on bugs v/s features v/s support and unblock business whenever and wherever necessary.
• Help in hiring suitable talent by interviewing for engineering roles.
