Main Activities/Responsibilities:

  1. To clinically support staff and students who are unwell who present to the service and provide advice on minor/common ailments.
  2. To prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist students and staff in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including appropriate triage to external services where necessary for diagnosis and treatment.
  3. To plan and facilitate the delivery of health promotion programmes for students and staff, including the development and delivery of specific projects and campaigns.
  4. To work collaboratively with colleagues across the institution and with Strath Union to increase awareness of the relevance of students’ health to academic progression and longer-term prospects.
  5. To work in partnership with local health services and other multi-agency groups and networks to develop and maintain joint working in relation to student health and wellbeing.
  6. To work collaboratively with other health promotion specialists to develop activities and initiatives related to student health.
  7. To assess the needs of students experiencing mental health difficulties and offer advice and onward referral as necessary.
  8. To respond effectively and speedily to students experiencing mental health crises, drawing in appropriate interventions from other agencies as required.
  9. To work with Disability Advisors, Counsellors, Study Support Assistants and Student Experience Managers to develop a joined-up approach to supporting students with mental health issues.
  10. To offer advice and support to University staff on the support of students in distress, or who experience mental or physical health difficulties.
  11. To keep abreast of all relevant legislative and statutory regulations, key drivers and future challenges and work within the required legislative and clinical context.
  12. Undertake other duties as appropriate to the grade and content of the post, as directed by the Head of Service or Deputy Directors. This list of duties is therefore not exhaustive.
