Position Description The Civil, Environmental & Renewables Engineering Group within Engineering and Major Projects provides the full range of planning, design, construction and maintenance services required for electricity industry infrastructure projects both in Ireland and overseas. The Senior Architect role includes the delivery of architectural services from feasibility through construction stage of electricity infrastructure projects for ESB. It involves the provision of relevant architectural services for both new developments and the maintenance and refurbishment of existing assets. The architect will also provide technical advice and support to ensure regulatory and legal compliance for the business in the development of new assets and continued operation of existing assets. The role also involves the mentoring and professional development of junior staff. Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide architectural design services through the entire project lifecycle from feasibility to commissioning.
- Fulfil the duties of Design Certifier and/or Assigned Certifier under the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations.
- Develop and manage project implementation plans covering key aspects of scope, programme and cost. Ensure adherence to requirements.
- Ensure compliance with requirements and procedures in respect of Planning, Fire Safety, Safety & Health and other enactments.
- Ensure that information is managed and maintained appropriately and consistent with ESB procedures.
- Provide specialist technical advice and expertise to project teams on architectural matters such as:
- Contract Management.
- Building Control Compliance.
- Sustainable Design in line with industry best practice.
- Ensure that effective communications take place so that Customer Departments and other stakeholders are regularly and fully informed on project development status, programme and costs.
- Manage consultants, review technical reports and progress solutions to technical issues that arise.
- Manage project budgets and scope to ensure timely delivery of work from internal resources and external consultants.
- Minimum 5 years experience as a consultant architect, and a project portfolio demonstrating strong design skills.
- Degree in Architecture or a related discipline, NFQ Level 8 or equivalent recognised qualification and Registered Architect status, in accordance with Section 18 (1) of the Building Control Act 2007.
- Comprehensive understanding of relevant Irish regulations, legislation, policy and guidance including proficiency in the BCMS platform with experienced understanding of the BC(A)R process.
- Demonstrable experience in Contract Administration, and knowledge of the regulatory framework of Planning, Building Control and general regulations relevant to architectural and building projects.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and proven track record of managing internal and external stakeholders.
- Full drivers’ licence valid for use in Republic of Ireland.
- Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and REVIT.
- Project management and contract management skills and knowledge.
- An understanding of Tendering processes.
- Demonstrable competence and experience in safety management, including the role of Project Supervisor Design Phase (PSDP).
