Director of Engineering

Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable backend systems and APIs. Lead and manage the engineering department, providing strategic direction, guidance, and mentorship to a team of engineers. Collaborate with front-end developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement new features and enhancements. Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices. Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers. Identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot and debug issues across the development and production environments. Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends to continually improve the backend architecture and processes. Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning within the engineering department. Must Have Skills Proficiency in Python, Javascript, FastAPI and/or RESTful API, Docker, PostgreSQL, Celery, Redis. 3+ years' experience with Python. Strong intuition on system design. Some familiarity with JavaScript and frontend technologies. Solid experience with setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. 4+ years experience creating and consuming RESTful APIs. Meticulous attention-to-detail. Pursuit of perfection in your work. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Min. 4, ideally 5-7 years of professional experience in backend development. Experience in a venture backed B2B SaaS or Ecommerce startup. Proven experience in a leadership role, such as Engineering Manager, Technical Lead, or similar, with a track record of successfully leading and delivering complex projects. Demonstrated experience in managing and mentoring engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. Deep understanding of software development methodologies, agile practices, and project management principles. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Strategic mindset, with the ability to align engineering efforts with business goals and objectives. Familiarity with cloud technologies, scalable architectures, and modern software development practices. Excellent problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail. Proven ability to manage budgets, allocate resources effectively, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
