Staff Nurse (Specialist Outpatient Clinic)

Institution: Institute of Mental Health Family Group: Nursing Job Description: The staff nurse is responsible for coordinating total nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care to meet the needs of the patients, including educating patients and families on mental health issues. The staff nurse assists the nurse clinician in the management of the Specialist Outpatient Clinic (SOC) and is also responsible for maintaining the standards for professional nursing practice and working cooperatively with the other members of the healthcare team to provide care that is comprehensive, integrated, and cost-effective. Job Responsibilities: Assesses and triages walk-in patients, identifying the vulnerable and patients with high-risk conditions so that they will be attended to promptly. Administers medication, performs treatment, and attends to other medical orders according to hospital policy. Assists and performs admission procedures and carries out treatment as required. Reports pertinent observations and reactions of SOC patients to the clinicians and records them accurately and concisely. Demonstrates knowledge and skills in nursing procedures such as venipuncture, Electrocardiogram (ECG), and oral/Nasopharyngeal swabbing techniques during pandemic situations or when required. Provides health teaching to patients and their families as appropriate. Collaborates with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of patients. Participates in the orientation and training of students and new staff. Increases knowledge of nursing care at SOC through continuing education, clinical supervision, and keeps pace with professional trends and practices and Information Technology (IT). Relieves other clinics when required. Requirements: Competency Possess good interpersonal, communication, writing, and IT skills. Familiar with the healthcare environment. Able to work independently with good decision-making skills. Educational and Professional Requirements Registered Nurse with SNB.
