About the opportunities Following recent enhancements to our executive leadership structure, we are excited to offer the following positions for Senior Executive Service contracts for up to 5 years. We are seeking experienced leaders with an outstanding record of achievement at the executive level. The ideal candidates will be looking for a new challenge that includes maintaining effective working relationships, fostering a positive team culture, and providing staff and the Senior Leadership Team with the confidence to take an innovative approach to their work. Available Positions Executive Director Broadacre Systems, Class 2 As a member of the pillar leadership team, the Executive Director at Broadacre Systems will lead the strategic vision and operations for the broadacre (grains) directorate, overseeing DPIRD’s diverse portfolio of agricultural and technological solutions for the grains industry. With a focus on research, innovation, efficiency, and sustainability, DPIRD drives research that will enhance supply chain logistics, data-driven decision-making, and operational excellence. The pillar delivers cutting-edge technologies and services to support Western Australian farmers, processors, and distributors in maximising productivity. We are looking for a leader with a keen understanding of the grains sector, its market dynamics and environmental responsibilities, someone who is dedicated to fostering long-term growth and stakeholder relationships, creating value, and advancing best practices across the agricultural sector. Executive Director Intensive and Irrigated Plant Systems, Class 1 As a member of the pillar leadership team, the Executive Director for Intensive and Irrigated Plant systems will be responsible for delivering the state’s horticulture systems strategy in line with government economic and primary industry development policies and DPIRD’s strategic directions throughout the sector. The position will drive research, innovation and sustainability strategies, supporting horticulture in WA. The role also has responsibility for delivering business performance across multiple sectors. The ability to think strategically in a rapidly changing environment will be essential, and the capacity to develop and maintain industry stakeholder relationships will be highly valued. Executive Director Animal Systems, Class 1 As a member of the pillar leadership team, the Executive Director for Animal Systems will be responsible for delivering the state’s livestock and future farming systems strategies, including research and operations in line with government economic and primary industry development policies, as well as DPIRD’s strategic directions. The position will drive research, innovation, and sustainability strategies, supporting the broad animal sector in WA, along with developing resilience in future farming systems. This position is responsible for establishing and leading strategic engagement and partnerships with key government, research, and primary industry body stakeholders. Executive Director Agribusiness Food and Trade, Class 1 Lead the Agribusiness Food & Trade Directorate to provide market access, and trade and investment services for the State’s primary industries; knowledge, insights, and enabling support to agribusinesses across the State; promote WA food provenance and build the capacity of WA’s food production sector. This role supports both metropolitan and regional agribusinesses and maintains strong links with state and federal partners on trade, investment and market access. About you To be successful in these roles, you will have: An outstanding record of leadership and achievement at an executive level. The ability to develop and lead a reform agenda, identify strategic priorities and create value for the Department and State. An exceptional ability to establish trusting relationships, align teams, collaborate, partner, and manage and influence stakeholders around shared priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility to navigate change and manage evolving priorities. A high level of personal integrity and ability to role model DPIRD’s values. A passion and vision for delivering outcomes, being curious, creative and courageous, and leading others in a changing environment.
