Lead Mechanical and Piping Engineer Job Responsibilities
- Drive the development of regional mechanical and piping standards, ensuring alignment with regulatory guidelines and the functional needs of the business.
- Assess designs for practicality, weighing risk and cost considerations, while incorporating value engineering principles in design evaluations.
- Review and validate engineering deliverables across project phases, including scope-of-work, drawings, and BID packages, ensuring adherence to design intent and flagging key issues for technical review.
- Ensure capital projects maintain compliance with mechanical, piping, and equipment engineering standards, policies, and procedures in line with regulatory standards, industry practices, and internal engineering guidelines.
- Provide advanced support for mechanical and piping engineering deliverables throughout capital projects.
- Compile analyses and propose actionable improvements, collaborating closely with Global and other Regional Capability Centers on continuous improvement initiatives to optimize performance and risk management.
- Lead the development of metrics, reporting processes, and mechanisms to monitor and uphold performance, compliance, and asset integrity in line with business requirements for mechanical and piping solutions.
- Coordinate, advocate, and enhance regional programs and policies for mechanical and piping engineering.
- Establish regional and support global service level agreements for mechanical and piping engineering, ensuring they meet evolving business requirements.
- Deliver mechanical and piping engineering support for standard operational needs.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance with limited oversight and identifying issues through research and informed judgment. May provide direction to team members and contribute to strategic decisions.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 12-20 years of relevant experience preferably in Oil & Gas / Petrochemical projects.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, DIN, ISO, PIP).
- Expertise in plant operations related to mechanical and piping systems, including Basis of Design (BoD), static and rotating equipment, solid handling, layout design, inspection and quality assurance (I&QA), piping design rules, pipe support, and pipe specifications. Knowledge of associated standards for gaskets, welding, and food safety protocols.
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments with senior stakeholders.
- Skilled in technical gap assessments and solution implementation.
- Capability to communicate complex technical information effectively across diverse technical backgrounds.
