The sub-editor’s responsibilities cover a range of activities that ensure the smooth running of, and active audience engagement with, ESPN India’s website and social media channels. These include covering breaking news stories, producing quick and accurate copies in line with ESPN’s style guide, following SEO guidelines, sourcing news, using data to shape editorial decisions, and managing programming tasks across ESPN’s international editions as per the global rota. Responsibilities : • Writing and publishing breaking news as well as match reports, monitoring and sourcing news material, • Contributing to match coverage as assigned, either through live-blogging commentary or reportage from the ground (or office). • Writing longer features, interviews, and other stories as assigned by the editor. • Ideating for new stories and exploring new formats and media to best produce stories. • Analysing data via live trends and monthly analysis to shape content plan and ensure ideal timing and volume of content. • Ensuring SEO guidelines are met and followed for all stories and events. • Working in collaboration with ESPN editions across the world to leverage our network and produce unique content. • Handling the site’s social media handles: including creating basic graphics and basic video editing. • Ensuring all content on site and social media channels abide by ESPN content guidelines. Skills and qualifications: ·Strong knowledge of all major sports including Football, hockey, badminton, chess, tennis and Olympic sports. ·Experience of working in a digital news environment (ideally sports)·Experience with digital formats, such as live blogs, alerts, newsletters, podcasts, digital video, websites and apps. ·Understanding of SEO and the use of digital analytics for publishing.
- Comfortable working weekends, late nights and flexible hours to cover live sports scheduling.
- Formal journalistic qualifications or equivalent relevant work experience are required for this role.
