- Primarily responsible for assisting management to ensure that all Mitie operations are carried out by competent colleagues in a safe, compliant, sustainable and efficient manner across a national account.
- The role will involve extensive UK travel and nights away to execute the role.
- Ensure that all training and competency requirements (Mitie and client and any other identified training needs) are met to an agreed schedule.
- Implementing the integrated business management system; ensuring a robust and efficient system is maintained with appropriate continuous improvement, audit and compliance with the requirements of the business and third party quality, health, safety and environmental management systems and accreditations.
- Identifying and minimising the risk of accidents to persons, property or the environment.
- Supporting all parts of the business when required including investigations, meetings, audits and training as a minimum to ensure that the QHSE function is efficient and pragmatic as possible.
- Ensure a healthy and engaging relationship with the client QHSE teams on site and across the Mitie wider QSHE community.
- Identify & implement strategies to reduce risk for Mitie companies and our clients.
- Manage a small QHSE a team of functionally skilled and competent colleagues.
- Experience of managing a team to an acceptable level and being able to demonstrate that.
- Maintain an up to date CPD, knowledge of legislation and codes of practice applicable to the contract needs and provide training and guidance to ensure understanding of others within the team as required.
- Assist, coach and mentor operational managers and their teams with building competence in the identification and development of practical and effective safe working practices.
- Ensure managers and personnel have the appropriate technical competence to work safely by the identification and provision of formal training and competency needs.
- Assist managers with the identification and development of practical and effective safe working practices with appropriate risk mitigation.
- Provide advice and guidance to managers, contractors and colleagues on QHSE matters.
- Ensure managers of the company are aware of their legal and company responsibilities.
- Carry out assessments that are outside the competence of managers i.e. Significant Risk, COSHH, Manual Handling, DSE and other assessments.
- Investigation of injuries and incidents to determine true root causes, corrective and preventative actions and the production of statistical information in relation to QHSE performance.
- Investigate and manage all QHSE documentation relating to potential / actual insurance claims.
- Work with the Line Manager to develop and implement QHSE strategies to meet business and group objectives.
- Produce QHSE reports as requested within the requested timeframes.
- Attend Regional and National meetings as required to represent the QHSE agenda.
- Maintain QHSE forums to enable engagement and communication with employees.
- Where required in consultation with the line manager liaise with relevant enforcing authorities.
- Lead and motivate the contract teams ensuring that QHSE is embedded at all levels inline with the Mitie values.
- Continuously develop the capabilities of the Contract teams raising their knowledge and skill levels.
- Develop an understanding of the Mitie Intranet in order to access relevant documentation.
- Attend performance appraisals and work to agreed personal improvement and development plans.
- Carryout regular reviews with direct reports and create personal development plans as appropriate.
- Attend relevant training courses as part of personal development needs and meeting changing business needs.
- Represent the Line Manager as required in their absence.
- Any other reasonable “ad hoc” duties as required by the needs of the business.
- Good understanding of ISO and relevant QHSE Standards applicable to the businesses.
- Good standard of written English with extensive report righting experience.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office).
- Able to work unsupervised and on own initiative.
- NEBOSH Certificate and working towards / hold Diploma Level IOSH qualification.
- Environmental Management qualification and experience preferred.
- Worked on regulated sites or within heavy industry involving high hazard activities such as work at height, excavations, etc.
- Lead auditor experience or extensive internal audit expertise across all aspects of QHSE.
- Experience of coaching and mentoring others within a business environment.
- Excellent problem solving skills using recognised techniques such as DMAIC, 6Sigma, etc.
- Member of IOSH, working towards CMIOSH.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience of multi-site, multi-discipline organisations.
- Detailed knowledge of risk assessment and management.
- Work in a commercial, client-facing environment.
- Ability to manage meetings.
- Able to deliver training on a range of subjects to varying abilities.
- Able to work as part of a team.
- Diplomatic and personable.
- Good management skills.
- Flexible approach to work patterns.
