Summary Canonical, a leader in open source, seeks engineers to develop Ubuntu-based container images. Work remotely, lead projects, and engage with CI/CD systems, Python, and container technologies. Description Canonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu , is widely used in breakthrough enterprise initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT. Canonical is building a new generation of Ubuntu-based container images to simplify open-source application deployment. These container images will be free to use with long-term security commitments, engineered for performance, security, and usability. In this role, you'll be developing the tools and technology for building and maintaining this new generation of container images. You'll work with multiple teams to ensure we deliver container images with the highest quality while maintaining a seamless Ubuntu user experience. You will also be involved in the Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery automation around these container images, demonstrating insights into container-based DevOps. This role entails:

1. Build robust, scalable, leading-edge container images
2. Work on automated CI/CD processes for building, testing, and publishing container images
3. Write tools and tests for assessing security compliance and cloud-native compatibility
4. Work in Python to deliver new functionalities to our container-building tools
5. Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural review
6. Provide technical feedback for the team's decision-making process
7. Engage with the open-source community as a subject-matter expert
8. Grow our knowledge base and write documentation
9. Work in a collaborative, agile, and globally distributed environment
10. Mentor and assist in hiring
11. Work from home with global travel up to 15% for internal and external events

What we are looking for in you:

1. Knowledgeable and passionate about software development
2. Team player with experience in collaborative development
3. Experience with CI/CD systems (e.g. Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Concourse CI)
4. Track record of delivering timely, high-quality software
5. Experience with container images and containerized operations
6. Proficiency in at least one container management/orchestration tool (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
7. Significant experience with Python
8. Experience with Linux systems administration and package management
9. Strong written and verbal communication skills
10. Belief in sharing knowledge
11. Skills ranging from Graduate to mid-senior Software Engineer
12. Bachelor's or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar degree
