Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician – E&I is accountable for contributing to the equipment availability of various types of electrical and instrumentation equipment used in the manufacturing processes at the Edmonton, AB production facility in safe, professional, and cost-effective manner.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, install, and commission equipment such as instrumentation field devices, motor control centers, motors, switchgear, PLC’s, VFD’s, HVAC’s and other electrical equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
• Install, program and commission various PLCs, communication equipment and HMIs.
• Inspecting and testing the operation of instruments and systems to diagnose faults using electrical and electronic devices.
• Participate in the development and execution of preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
• Assist in obtaining and evaluating quotations for parts and service.
• Assist in the evaluation and recommendation of equipment enhancements to improve equipment reliability.
• Actively participates in regular housekeeping audits and daily tours of production areas to support the 5S lean philosophy.
• Participates in quality and customer incident investigations and assists with identifying and implementing recommendations to prevent recurrence.
• Participates in equipment root cause failure analysis investigations and process safety management programs.
• Ad-hear to all safety standards, policies and relevant reference materials.

Minimum Qualifications

• This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing.
• Possess an interprovincial electrical trade certificate with 5 years of industrial maintenance experience, dual ticketed as an instrument mechanic would be considered a definite asset.
• Knowledge of maintaining motor control systems, PLC programming experience, variable frequency drives, process control, and wireless vibration systems.
• Role requires the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization in a professional manner.
• Computer literacy in MS Office and computerized process systems are necessary.
• Proficient use of computerized maintenance management systems (SAP preferred). 
• Possess excellent organizational skills.
• Available for periodic on-call and afterhours call outs
• Previous experience operating mobile equipment safely in an industrial facility.
• Ability to work in a self-motivated team environment with strong work ethic, positive attitude, and proven attendance record.

• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Physical ability to conduct field inspections, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
• Experience with root cause analysis, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and calibration practices.
• A safety-first mindset with a proven track record of maintaining high safety standards in electrical and instrumentation operations.
• Ability to respond to emergencies and work on-call as required to support 24/7 operations.
• Must be physically capable of frequent field inspections, including climbing, bending, and working in confined spaces.
• Comfortable and physically able to spend significant periods (25%+) in the field (job walkdowns, interaction with team to ensure quality of planning, etc.) including accessing equipment at heights, bending, and confined space entry, in all weather conditions.
• Requires on-site presence, with the role being unsuitable for remote work arrangements.
• Fit for Duty; this is a safety-sensitive position, requiring a high degree of responsibility and alertness to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
• Physical: Requires the ability to wear full and half face respirators. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Walking, sitting, climbing, lifting, balancing, kneeling, reaching, handling, dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing. Possess the ability to handle weights up to 50 lbs. Requires visual acuity to distinguish colors. 
• Aptitudes: must possess the ability to understand the meaning of words and their ideas, as well as instructions and their underlying principles. Perform arithmetic operations quickly and accurately and possess eye-hand coordination. Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. 
• Temperaments: Must have the ability to accept responsibility, perform duties under stress, adapt to situations requiring preciseness and adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
