Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity As Lead Advisor Geotechnical Engineering , you will be a part of the Office of the Chief Engineer that sets the strategic plan and direction to ensure the changing needs of New Zealand's transport system are realised. You will provide technical expertise and leadership across NZTA's geotechnical engineering discipline, including key risk areas to ensure effective guidance is given as key investment and risk decisions are made. You'll collaborate, engage and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, providing advice and leading the development of new (and revision of existing) standards and policies and guidance on best practice. You will work with the industry collaboratively to manage key risks and explore opportunities and innovation, representing NZTA in technical forums. Ko koe tēnei | About you Our ideal person will have technical expertise in geotechnical and seismic engineering and be an exceptional communicator dealing with both highly technical and non-technical audiences. You will be driven and self-motivated to keep improving your technical skills, to disseminate your knowledge and drive the industry forward to greater technical excellence. Key knowledge and experience required:
  • Technical experience and knowledge of transport system planning, improvement, operation and maintenance from a geotechnical engineering perspective
  • Seismic engineering knowledge and risk-based design requirements pertinent to geotechnical engineering
  • Experience in providing input into strategic issues and policies and placing them in an operational and practical context
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the legislative frameworks and stakeholder roles and standards related to geotechnical engineering aspects of the transport system
  • Proven experience in leading, influencing and building relationships and credibility across a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to take on challenges and opportunities and progress to solutions.
  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification at preferably postgraduate level in a relevant discipline; Chartered professional engineer (CPEng); Professional member of ENZ (CMEngNZ); and/or demonstrated equivalent experience and related technical expertise
