Job details

You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a multi-GPU server architecture to host cloud gaming sessions, connecting to thin clients over a LAN (potentially also for remote users). This includes hardware (e.g., GPU servers, networking gear) and software (Windows VM, Linux hypervisor, hooking pipelines) configurations. You'll collaborate with external consultants (cloud gaming experts, virtualization specialists) but must be hands-on in installing, testing, and managing day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Server & Hardware Setup
  • Install and configure a high-density server (e.g., 4U rack server with multiple GPUs) or multiple mini PCs, ensuring correct GPU pass-through where needed.
  • Coordinate power, cooling, and rack-mounting strategies (if applicable).
  • Validate BIOS/UEFI settings (IOMMU, virtualization extensions) for GPU pass-through or multi-GPU usage.
  • Deploy and maintain Windows (e.g., Server or Pro) and Linux (e.g., Debian, Ubuntu, Proxmox, or ESXi-based environment) to evaluate different possible configurations.
  • Set up hypervisors (VMware ESXi, Proxmox) or multi-seat Windows installs as required.
  • Perform initial testing of GPU pass-through or hooking modules, ensuring stable performance.
  • Thin Client Integration
  • Determine the best thin client solution (enterprise or consumer mini-PC), install necessary OS and kiosk software.
  • Configure networking for minimal-latency streaming to each client.
  • Set up user-friendly kiosk or auto-login environment so that users can quickly launch the gaming sessions.
  • Networking & Security
  • Configure LAN/WAN (switches, routers) to handle concurrent high-bitrate streams.
  • Implement VLANs or firewall rules if needed for user separation.
  • Ensure secure authentication and possibly remote access (VPN or NAT traversal) for off-site usage if relevant.
  • Install hooking pipelines, NVENC libraries, game streaming frameworks, or custom WebRTC-based code.
  • Schedule updates for Windows or Linux, GPU drivers, and game titles.
  • Manage backups or snapshots of virtual machines, if using a hypervisor.
  • Performance Tuning & Troubleshooting
  • Monitor GPU/CPU usage, system logs, and user session performance.
  • Identify bottlenecks (network, CPU, GPU pass-through misconfigurations) and optimize.
  • Work closely with consultants or in-house devs to ensure hooking, streaming, and user experience are stable.
  • Record all configurations, best practices, and changes in a knowledge base.
  • Liaise with external consultants on specialized tasks (e.g., advanced hooking code, streaming protocols, or virtualization quirks).
  • Provide internal training or handover sessions for support staff or other stakeholders.
  • User Support & Expansion
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for user issues (thin client fails to connect, VM not streaming, GPU pass-through glitch, etc.).
  • Propose expansions or upgrades (additional GPUs, more servers) if user concurrency grows.

Qualifications

  • Technical Background
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience with Windows Server or Linux system administration.
  • Familiarity with VMware ESXi, Proxmox VE, Hyper-V, or similar hypervisors.
  • Experience setting up GPU pass-through for multi-user environments is a plus.
  • Hardware Knowledge
  • Experience handling multi-GPU systems (NVIDIA RTX series) in either workstation or server contexts.
  • Ability to plan power, cooling, and PCIe lane usage.
  • Understanding of LAN switching, VLANs, basic firewall rules, and NAT if remote access is needed.
  • Ability to troubleshoot high-bitrate, low-latency streaming issues.
  • Scripting & Automation
  • Basic scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automating installations, updates, or monitoring tasks.
  • Soft Skills
  • Good communication for coordinating with external consultants (cloud gaming experts).
  • Problem-solver who can document setups clearly, adapt to evolving requirements.

Nice-to-Have

  • Familiarity with GPU-based hooking solutions (Desktop Duplication, Direct3D hooking), NVENC usage, or WebRTC streaming.
  • Hands-on experience with gaming or eSports server setups, or large-scale VDI systems.
  • Knowledge of AV1/H.265 decode/encode pipelines, plus relevant streaming frameworks.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation reflecting your pivotal role in shaping our in-house cloud gaming platform.
  • Opportunities to work with cutting-edge GPU hardware (RTX40-series, server form factors).
  • A chance to learn from external gaming/virtualization consultants and become the in-house expert on multi-GPU streaming.
  • A dynamic environment with upcoming eSports events, expansions, and new game tech integration.
