We are looking for an Lighting Applications & Technical Support Specialist to join our team to assist in technical support for troubleshooting, commissioning, and programming, and assisting sales in project design, CAD drawing interpretation, light rendering calculations and bill of materials. This is a critical position to show support in our products and help our customers achieve the results that they have invested into and to leave a positive impression of GVA Lighting. The primary roles for Applications & Technical Support Specialist are:- To be part of and maintain a world class Technical Support department;
- Solve site related and installation issues to help the customer and installers get the project up and running.
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning systems and make recommendations for corrective action;
- Resolve customer complaints and establish corrective action plan;
- Provide a positive impression of GVA Lighting and our product offering as well as being able to set proper expectations and communicate technical information accurately;
- Gather customer’s information and determine the issue by evaluating and analyzing the symptoms;
- Instruct customers in the operation and maintenance of the installed system;
- Program on site equipment, such as power data devices, luminaires, and control systems;
- Troubleshoot any on site equipment that is not functioning as per factory specifications and take action to resolve the issues or instruct on site personnel;
- Understand the design philosophy and construction of GVA LED lighting products;
- Assist the sales team in technical communication with Architects, GC, EC, EE, Lighting Designers, Distributors and GVA rep Agencies;
- Provide feedback to Product Managers, Engineering, Quality team, Manufacturing teams to further develop, evaluate and improve products and processes for the benefit of GVA and its customers;
- Assist with mock-ups, project commissioning and contractor training;
- Support in additional capacities as required, such as system installations, training sessions, and satellite office support;
- Document steps taken, pictures, timesheets, processes, and failure analysis reports;
- Issue Return requests (Return Material Authorizations).
- Assist in the sales process by offering technical expertise on application related questions;
- Communicate with Architects, GC, EC, EE, Lighting Designers, Distributors and GVA rep Agencies;
- Prepare and interpret conventional and computer-assisted design (CAD) engineering systems, drawings, and specifications for lighting systems and components;
- Evaluate customer requirements with regards to GVA product offering to layout and design, the lighting plan and electrical requirements for preparation of BOM;
- Create project specific lighting layouts, 3D light renderings and electrical plan designs and creation of a detailed BOM and submission to the customer;
- Work with Engineering and manufacturing to develop, evaluate and improve products and processes for the benefit of GVA and its customers;
- Keep informed of performance limitations of all GVA products and ensure that all documentation output work within these limitations. Proactively prevent potential issues in the field by producing only deliverables that takes into consideration these limitations;
- Prepare standards and schedules and supervise lighting system maintenance programs.
- Support trade shows, user group meetings, and similar events as required;
- ERP quote and order entry;
- Such further and other duties as may be necessary and/or desirable to effectively carry out the duties and responsibilities.
- 2-5 years of experience in technical support;
- High proficiency in spoken and written English communication;
- Have excellent independent problem solving skills;
- Have strong aptitude for Engineering;
- High level of integrity and passion for lighting design;
- Comfortable in a fast paced, electronic technology and engineering based environment;
- Proven ability to prioritize workflow, multi task and be detail oriented;
- Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive;
- Being able to read architectural, and electrical drawings, lighting layouts and riser diagrams;
- Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Photoshop;
- Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD, Firmware update and controls tools, DMX timeline control programs, PDF writers;
- Knowledge of DMX control systems and its protocol standards;
- Hands on to solve on site issues immediately, solve with creative and quick solutions.
- Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and/or Technology Diploma.
