NWI Precision specializes in high-precision machining of helicopter masts, turbine shafts, engine thrust links, and nuclear pressure vessel components used in the aerospace and nuclear industries worldwide. NWI Precision’s 120,000 sq. ft. facility is located at 9 Fenmar Drive in Toronto. Our dedicated team of approximately 200 employees pride themselves on delivering the highest quality products, to specifications and on time. NWI Precision is currently seeking an experienced Buyer. The Buyer will be responsible for managing the procurement of goods and services necessary for company operations. This role requires an understanding of our ERP system, administration of purchase orders achieving our master production schedule, strong negotiation skills, market awareness, and a commitment to maintaining supplier relationships that ensure quality, cost efficiency, and timely delivery. Also, involved in prequalification of suppliers, commercial evaluation, communication with bidders, providing recommendations, and purchase awards. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Request price quotations from suppliers
- Maintain and update pricing/sourcing data in the ERP system for reference and reporting purposes
- Prepare purchase orders (POs)
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of POs, packing slips and attachments
- Work with Suppliers to keep up-to-date promise dates in the ERP system
- Manage, maintain and expedite orders to meet internal volume and production needs
- Contact suppliers to resolve supply shortages, missed deliveries, order errors
- Ensure that all products and process specifications are current and approved by Engineering & Quality departments
- Assist handling of defective materials or non-compliant parts through RMA and NCR procedures and ISO standards
- Develop, maintain and build supplier relationships
- Maintain records of supplier performance for discussions with suppliers
- Participate in continuous improvement activity
- Identify and implement cost savings through spend analysis, supplier negotiations, business resourcing, and other purchasing methods
- Complete supplier plant visits and inspections as required
- Comply with the company’s purchasing policies and procedures, and legal/ethical obligations
- Carry out all other procurement responsibilities as required to support business operations
- University Degree or College Diploma in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field preferred
- PMAC or other Supply Chain continuous learning courses
- Minimum of 5 years of direct procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of best purchasing practices, business methods, markets, and cost saving techniques
- Knowledge of Contracts and contract law
- Exposure to workplace safety requirements (WHMIS, WSIB requirements and Risk Assessment)
- Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Continuous Improvement project experience
- Knowledge of NAFTA, Customs and Export Documentation and INCO terms
- Effective detail-oriented negotiator with superior analytical/problem solving and decision making skills
- Capable of Negotiating on principle and from position
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Must be able to work independently, as well as part of a team
- Excellent organization skills with an ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Proficient with relevant computer applications including MS Project, MS Excel, Microsoft
