About the role: Are you a proactive, goal-driven individual with a passion for connecting with people and creating opportunities? We’re seeking a dynamic Business Development Representative (BDR) to join our team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in driving our growth by identifying and qualifying potential leads, engaging prospects, and setting the stage for successful sales opportunities. You’ll work closely with our sales and marketing teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. The best part… we use our Acorn software at Acorn. We believe in the power of our Managers and Staff being aligned on the 5 capabilities needed for each role, and the level that we expect for any given role, using our Acorn AI tool to streamline this consistently across our business. The 5 levels comprise Foundational, Developing, Proficient, Advanced and Expert. Here are the 5 capabilities for our BDR to give you an idea of what the role entails, and the level we are looking for from it:
- Lead Qualification - Identifies and qualifies potential leads within Acorn’s ICP through targeted research and initial outreach. Demonstrates understanding of qualifying criteria and applies these to manage a quality pipeline of leads ready for handover to sales. Level - Developing: Applies ICP criteria to assess lead quality, handling qualification independently. Engages with potential clients to clarify their needs.
- Outbound Prospecting - Conducts targeted outreach campaigns, focusing on high-potential prospects within the ICP. Utilises Acorn’s value propositions and strategic messaging to engage potential clients, generating interest and opportunities for the sales team. Level - Developing: Independently runs outbound outreach campaigns, applying messaging to ICP targets effectively. Begins to adjust tactics based on engagement responses.
- Inbound Lead Management - Manages inbound leads, ensuring timely follow-up and initial qualification based on Acorn’s ICP. Maintains organised records of lead interactions, facilitating smooth handover to Account Executives for follow-up. Level - Developing: Independently handles inbound leads, responding promptly and applying ICP criteria for initial assessment. Documents interactions effectively.
- Market and Product Awareness - Develops and applies an understanding of Acorn’s product suite and market positioning to communicate value effectively. Leverages this knowledge in lead conversations, adding relevance to each interaction within Acorn’s ICP context. Level - Developing: Grows product knowledge, linking relevant features to lead conversations. Begins positioning Acorn within the context of client needs.
- Relationship Building - Cultivates positive interactions with prospects, displaying empathy and transparency. Builds trust through regular communication, ensuring that each lead has a strong impression of Acorn and is ready for transition to the Account Executive team. Level - Developing: Engages with leads regularly, strengthening relationships and ensuring a positive experience. Adjusts approach based on prospect responses.
- Customer-Focused: A proven ability to connect with and engage potential customers, with experience in sales, business development, or similar roles
- Strong Communicator: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to tailor messaging to various audiences
- Organised and Detail-Oriented: Capable of managing multiple leads, tracking interactions, and maintaining accurate records in a CRM system
- Goal-Oriented: A self-starter who thrives on achieving and exceeding targets
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with sales engagement tools and CRM software; an understanding of SaaS solutions is a plus
