The Irish Cancer Society is recruiting for a Programme Manager – Grants. Title: Programme Manager – Grants Reports to: Head of Research Direct reports: Translational & Clinical Research Coordinator – Grants Survivorship Research Coordinator – Grants Specific Purpose Contract: Maternity Cover Hours: Full-time (35 hours per week) Mon – Fri 9am to 5pm. Location: The Society operates a hybrid working model with a combination of remote and in-person (Dublin office) working. Office attendance days are Wednesday & Thursday weekly. Purpose of the role: The Programme Manager - Grants will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the Society’s competitive research grant call programmes.
- Management of the research grants programme team.
- Project management of large, cross-organisational strategic partnerships.
- Recruiting, developing and managing the research grants programme team including performance management, training requirements and application of the Society’s annual appraisal process.
- Leading the day-to-day management of our large strategic partnerships.
- Working with the Head of Research to develop an annual grant call programme and budget.
- Continuously looking for ways to develop and implement improvements to the grant management processes, and updating policies and procedures for our annual grant calls.
- Managing the day-to-day implementation of the Irish Cancer Society annual competitive grant call programme.
- Overseeing the post-award processes including the ongoing management of currently funded researchers.
- Identifying new opportunities to reach out to the cancer research community in Ireland and encourage them to consider applying for Irish Cancer Society grants.
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with funded researchers.
- Keeping up to date with cancer research developments and with the research calls published by other funding bodies.
- Assisting in the development and delivery of a research communications plan with the Advocacy & Communications department.
- Working with other members of the Research Department to ensure that the patient voice is embedded in the Society’s grant calls.
- Being familiar with relevant international (including European) cancer research developments and their implications for Ireland.
- Skilled scientific writer: Excellent writing and editing skills, ability to draft and edit scientific reports.
- Independent: Ability to work on your own initiative.
- Adaptable team player: Flexible and collaborative within your direct team and with colleagues across the organisation.
- An effective and engaging communicator: Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organised and efficient: Highly organised and efficient with strong attention to detail.
- Good decision-making and negotiation skills: Ability to make decisions using good judgement and experience with negotiating difficult situations.
- Flexible: A flexible approach with the ability to work in a methodical and organised fashion.
- Technology savvy: High level of proficiency in the MS Office suite, and experience of working with databases.
- Educated to PhD level.
- More than 3 years’ experience working in a relevant professional field.
- Demonstrated experience in project management.
- Demonstrated experience in managing people.
- Excellent knowledge of university structures, research environment and academic procedures.
- 23 days Annual Leave a year or Pro Rata equivalent, plus public holidays, Good Friday and Christmas Eve (if it falls on a working day).
