Job Title: Digital Production / Audience Editor - The Irish Times Reports to: Managing Editor - Production / Head of Audience Location: The Irish Times HQ, Tara Street (Hybrid Working) Contract: 2 Year Fixed Term Contract About us: The Irish Times has delivered top quality news, opinion and analysis since it was first published in 1859. The Irish Times continues the transition from print to multi-platform publication, while upholding the journalistic principles that earned it the reputation as Ireland's paper of reference. Job Purpose: To oversee and enhance the digital presentation of The Irish Times' content across platforms, combining high-level editing, multimedia integration, and strategic audience engagement to maximise reach and subscriber growth. Key Responsibilities: Content Management and Editing:
- Edit, proofread, and publish stories to a high standard, ensuring accuracy in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Enhance digital content with links, images, tags, embeds, and multimedia elements, including picture galleries, audio, and video.
- Re-write and update stories based on input from commissioning desks, adhering to legal standards and editorial judgment.
- Manage content flow on digital platforms, including headline testing and social media promotion, with the goal of growing the subscriber base.
- Implement and develop social media strategies, including creating video content for platforms like TikTok.
- Assist with distributing reader products, such as email newsletters, digests, and push notifications.
- Write engaging, SEO-friendly headlines.
- Stay informed of current digital trends to enhance content strategy.
- Leverage multimedia tools to produce visually and audibly engaging content.
- Coordinate with editorial and technical teams to maintain high standards across digital platforms.
- Assist in the development and management of digital products, ensuring effective collaboration with internal departments.
- Use content management systems (CMS) and digital production tools effectively.
- Ensure familiarity with the latest technologies to support content delivery.
- Work independently or within a team to meet deadlines and respond to dynamic newsroom needs.
- Provide cover for colleagues when necessary.
- Perform other relevant tasks as directed by the Managing Editor - Production or Head of Audience.
