KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS: The candidates' responsibilities and duties will include: • Assisting and supporting in spatial elements within WILDOCEANS, including organising and participating in field studies for ground truthing, and project meetings. • Creating maps and undertaking spatial analyses for various reports, presentations and feedback sessions. • Providing support for project staff in the submission of spatial data. • Mapping of ecological and social data for project areas for planning, assessments, data management and reporting. • Support in the development and implementation of integrative GIS projects, metadata protocols, data management, and storage systems across WILDOCEANS projects. • Interacting and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders who may require GIS skills for project-relevant tasks. • Provision of specialist support to the communications, campaign, education and awareness teams. • Establishment of detailed and field-verified key ecological and local community area datasets to serve as a baseline against which all future and past comparisons are made to allow for objective change analysis. • Investigate the use of remotely sensed data in the long-term monitoring of ecologically sensitive areas, landcover change and the assessment of the impact of rehabilitation measures over time. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE • Honours degree or Higher diploma (a Master's degree would be an advantage) in natural sciences or geography. • At least 2 years of relevant GIS work experience that includes proven field survey experience. • Highly skilled in GIS software and R (or appropriate programming language, i.e. python). • Administration and reporting experience, with a proven track record. • Registration as a GIS Professional with SAGC will be an advantage. • Driver's licence. REQUIRED SKILLS • Highly responsible, self-motivated, and dependable individual. • Good interpersonal and leadership qualities. • Can engage with partners and stakeholders effectively. • Strong communication, organisational and technical skills are required. • Proficiency in the use of at least one GIS product, preferably ESRI ArcGIS, and in MS Office. • Willingness to spend time in the field during field surveys for extended periods. • Preference will be given to candidates who can communicate in isiZulu.
