Operating under broad direction, you will drive the strategic vision for the Work Health and Safety (WHS) pillar of the Geoscience Australia People and Culture Strategy 2024-2028.Your role involves managing highly complex and sensitive projects, providing high-level advice to senior management, and ensuring the successful delivery of immediate priorities while developing longer-term goals that are sustainable and aligned with the organisation's strategic intent.A crucial aspect of this role is building strong relationships at all levels across the organisation and leveraging your expertise in change management for cultural reform. This position offers a unique opportunity for a leader to contribute significantly to our commitment to enhancing our safety performance.In this role you will: Shape and implement a comprehensive safety strategy, integrating system solutions to enhance WHS practices, foster a transformative safety culture with a customer-centric focus, and build genuine relationships within the organisation. Provide strategic guidance on safety aligned with legislation and best practice, emphasising a systems-thinking approach that incorporates human factors and meets customer needs. Establish and maintain strategic networks, effectively engage stakeholders during organisational change, and foster genuine relationships. Recruit, develop, and mentor a new section, focusing on building a cohesive team, establishing a culture of high performance and customer service, and promoting continuous capability development within the team. To be successful in the role you will: Understand the organisation's direction and the role of WHS within the organisational, broader government and national context. Possess deep domain knowledge, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the operating environment, best practices, relevant legislation, and emerging developments in WHS. Foster a forward-thinking mindset by developing long term plans, anticipating future priorities, and staying proactive in addressing evolving challenges. Utilise a comprehensive approach to information gathering, exploring diverse viewpoints with an open mind, and actively participate in continuous improvement, exhibiting persistence and adaptability in achieving results.
