Responsibilities
- Performs the professional duties of a neonatologist.
- Makes daily rounds related to patients in the hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the normal newborn nursery; performs general or special examinations and other procedures covering the full scope of the field of neonatology. Orders laboratory examinations and X-rays, determines diagnosis, prescribes nursing and dietary care necessary, orders or applies such preventive measures as required.
- Provides in-patient care to the newborn and attends difficult delivery or cesarean section deliveries.
- Serves as a consultant in neonatology providing consultative services to other Medical Services. Provides technical assistance with pediatric patients. Determines the eligibility of neonatology admissions.
- Reviews journals, texts, or periodicals in order to keep current on the latest techniques and procedures of neonatal intensive care.
- Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians' conference, or other committees as requested.
- Performs duties in the Pediatric Outpatient Clinic to see well and sick babies up to the age of one year.
- Provides on-call emergency coverage for neonatal emergencies.
- Performs other miscellaneous related duties as requested.
- Complies with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures and cooperates with hospital management to comply with those requirements.
- Works in accordance with the documented OSH procedures and instructions, specific responsibilities.
- Familiarizes with emergency and evacuation procedures.
- Notifies OSH Hazards, incidents, near misses, and issues and assists with the preparation of risk assessments, incident reports.
- Complies with waste management procedures and policies.
- Attends applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
- Uses appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Qualifications
- QUALIFICATION, LICENSURE, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency; certification by the American Board of Neonatology or Member of the Royal College of Physicians (or its equivalent).
- At least five (5) years of practice as a neonatologist with two (2) or more years as a licensed specialist.
- Excellent command of oral and written English. Knowledge of the Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
- Must be highly skilled in the particular field of practice, with mature clinical judgment and ability to provide professional leadership. Must have a thorough knowledge of Medical Department policies and procedures with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of work; possess a personality that inspires confidence and trust in patients; and adhere to Bylaws, Rules, and Regulations of the Medical Organization.
- Current licensure in the country of origin and with HAAD license to practice as a consultant Neonatologist in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients, and families.
