Overview We are seeking a dynamic, hands-on, and experienced Director of Embedded Engineering to lead our firmware and hardware engineering teams. This role is critical in driving the design, development, PLM, process improvement, and delivery of cutting-edge embedded systems that power our innovative products. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing both firmware and hardware teams, excelling in cross-functional leadership, and delivering high-quality embedded solutions on time and within budget. Key Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development: · Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary engineering team, including firmware and hardware engineers. · Develop and communicate a clear vision for the future of embedded engineering, aligning engineering goals with broader business objectives. · Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, promoting continuous improvement and growth within the team. Embedded System Architecture & Development: · Oversee the architecture, design, and development of embedded systems across firmware and hardware, ensuring optimal integration. · Implement and oversee best practices for engineering processes, methodologies, and tools. · Provide technical direction for critical design and development initiatives, ensuring scalability, reliability, and innovation. · Introduce and implement industry best practices to enhance team efficiency and engineering workflows. Strategic Planning & Roadmap Execution: · Collaborate with sales and leadership to define product roadmaps, aligning embedded system capabilities with business goals. · Manage the product lifecycle to ensure optimization at every stage, including manufacturing, installation, and return merchandise authorization (RMA) processes. · Prioritize projects, allocate resources, and ensure successful and timely delivery of products. · Establish and maintain strong relationships with Heavy-duty trucks OEMs to understand their product roadmaps and align product integration plans. Vendor & Supplier Management: · Collaborate closely with operations to ensure contract manufacturers efficiency, reliability and continuous improvements. Quality & Compliance: · Oversee design reviews, code audits, and performance testing for continuous improvement. · Ensure that all products meet relevant industry standards, certifications, and regulatory requirements, particularly for safety-critical automotive systems. Background and Qualifications · Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or related field. · 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing both firmware and hardware teams. · Proven experience in delivering complex, high-performance embedded systems from concept to production. · Expertise in firmware development (C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux, etc.) and hardware design (schematics, PCB layout, microcontrollers, etc.). · Excellent understanding of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. · Experience with agile methodologies, version control systems, and modern development tools. · Experience in the automotive industry, with a focus on embedded systems.
