As part of our commitment to advancing data-driven healthcare, we are seeking a Senior Bioinformatician Consultant to support our projects on a part-time basis. Job Summary: The Senior Bioinformatician Consultant will provide expertise and guidance on bioinformatics workflows, tool selection, and data analysis. The consultant will work closely with our team on a project basis to ensure high-quality outcomes in genomics and bioinformatics research. Key Responsibilities:
- Consultation and Strategy Development:
- Provide strategic advice for setting up bioinformatics workflows and pipelines.
- Guide the team on the selection of tools, software, and databases for genomics projects.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Offer expertise in analyzing NGS (Next-Generation Sequencing) data, including quality control, alignment, variant calling, and annotation.
- Interpret results and assist in creating reports and scientific presentations.
- Process Optimization:
- Recommend improvements for data processing pipelines to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot technical and analytical issues as needed.
- Knowledge Sharing:
- Conduct periodic training sessions for team members on bioinformatics tools and methodologies.
- Share best practices and insights into emerging trends in bioinformatics and genomics.
- Education:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in bioinformatics, with extensive hands-on experience in NGS data analysis.
- Proven experience in consulting or part-time advisory roles is preferred.
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in tools such as BWA, GATK, STAR, or similar pipelines.
- Proficiency in 16S and shotgun metagenomics and related pipelines/tools for data processing and interpretation
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or related languages.
- Familiarity with databases like GTDB, SILVA, Ensembl, NCBI, and UCSC Genome Browser.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and provide strategic guidance.
- Time Commitment: Part-time basis, with an estimated workload of [X] hours per week (flexible).
