The Opportunity: WSP is currently seeking a motivated Senior Civil Engineer / Project Manager to join our Calgary Land Development & Municipal Engineering (LDME) team. Reporting to the Calgary LDME Manager, this position will allow the successful candidate the opportunity to have meaningful involvement leading a wide variety of projects in terms of type and scale, throughout planning, design and construction administration services. Examples of projects may include site servicing projects for public, private and First Nation clients, residential/commercial/industrial subdivisions, improvements and enhancements to municipal water, wastewater, drainage, roadway infrastructure, etc. As a key member of the team, you will deal directly with clients, regulatory agencies teams of multidisciplinary technical engineers, junior staff, CAD technicians, and field staff. - Provide technical advisory services to clients for municipal and land development engineering projects
- Leading a technical team to prepare analyses, designs, drawings, specifications, cost estimates and reports
- Supporting field staff throughout contract administration and reviews for projects under construction
- Provide mentorship to new and existing junior staff;
- Actively participate in the design and provide direction to the team throughout the design process
- Manage clients and projects. Assist and give staff the freedom and confidence to develop sustainable and exciting solutions for their clients
- Maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction by ensuring that project outputs meet client expectation and ensure clients are fully consulted and apprised of progress, issues and related solutions at key project stages
- Implement WSP project management methodology to ensure projects result in a successful conclusion for both the client and the company
- Monitor project financial performance, invoice clients promptly, and ensure payment is received
- Develop, maintain and implement client relationships, ensure clients consistently feel valued and that their needs are being met. Create trusting relationships to ensure WSP is the consultant of choice
- Build effective networks and working relationships with stakeholders and clients
- Identify and respond to business opportunities and meet with potential clients regarding our services
- Lead RFP’s, Bid and Proposal documents; and
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure or land development experience for Public and Private Sector projects
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in civil engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), Professional Licensee (P.L. Eng.) or Professional Technologist (P. Tech) designation in Alberta
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset. WSP also offers PMP training to qualified staff members
- Knowledge and application of local standards and guidelines
- Knowledge and application of Environmental standards and guidelines
- Project Management experience on municipal and/or private sector projects
- Experience with sewer, watermain, and road design
- Familiarity with local planning/approval processes
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s license
- Experience working with the various Alberta municipalities and First Nations is an asset
