Electronics Engineering Summer Intern 2024/2025 Zenno creates scalable technology for sustainable space exploration. We are currently developing fuel-free satellite systems for satellite attitude control and propulsion based on our invention of superconducting electromagnets for space applications. At full maturity, we expect Zenno products to range from novel spacecraft components to on-orbit services. Job Description Paid fixed-term internship for 400 hours between November 2024 and February 2025.

  1. Setting up research and experimental investigations into building a database for radiation tested satellite components.
  2. Researching characteristics of selected electrical components for radiation tolerance or susceptibility.
  3. Designing carrier boards, building, performing baseline electrical tests, working with the University of Auckland to irradiate hardware, performing post-test analysis, analyzing data, and writing a report.
  4. Assisting in the development and handling of space-going technology.
Importance to Zenno Zenno Astronautics uses some Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) electrical components and their radiation data is not well known. This project will enhance the ability of our EE team to understand electrical component behaviour, test new ideas, develop better/faster experiments and directly contribute to hardware for satellites. Our aims for you At the conclusion of the internship period, students will be proficient in collaborating within a team environment, applying critical thinking and showing evidence of applying their skills within a fast-paced environment.   1. Literature review
  2. Initial research into selected components
  3. Expanded research into similar components with radiation tolerance
  4. Design for experimental tests
  5. Design carrier boards
  6. Build carrier boards
  7. Check boards with baseline electrical test
  8. Radiate the hardware
  9. Post-test functional checkout
  10. Final reports
Requirements To be considered, you must have completed at least your 3rd or 4th undergraduate year studying any of the following disciplines:
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Physics
  • Mechatronics Engineering
You must have some electrical experience and basic Altium skills. Nice to have, but not required:
  • Knowledge of cryogenic engineering
  • Knowledge of the space environment
Employment type: Fixed-term internship, 400 hours Compensation: $26 per hour Location: This internship must be undertaken at Zenno Astronautics' facilities in Auckland, New Zealand.
