Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Engineer specializing in fuel channels for nuclear power. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of nuclear reactor fuel systems, particularly the design, analysis, and maintenance of fuel channels. This position plays a key role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of Bruce Power's fuel handling and management systems. Key Responsibilities:
- Fuel Channel Design & Optimization: Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of fuel channel systems within the reactor. Ensure that fuel channels meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Engineering Support: Provide technical expertise in the installation, modification, and maintenance of fuel channels. Offer guidance and support during reactor shutdowns, refueling, and inspections.
- Failure Analysis & Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve any performance issues related to fuel channels, including failure analysis and root cause determination. Implement corrective actions to improve system reliability.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all designs and modifications comply with nuclear industry standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental policies. Prepare documentation for regulatory approvals.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders in fuel channel-related projects. Foster a collaborative environment to solve complex technical challenges.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks associated with fuel channels and develop strategies to mitigate these risks to ensure safe operation. Perform safety analyses and provide input on risk assessments.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement in fuel channel design and operational efficiency, leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 1-5 years of experience in the nuclear power industry with a strong focus on fuel systems, fuel channels, or reactor core design.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of fuel channel systems, nuclear reactor operation, and fuel handling procedures. Familiarity with thermal-hydraulic modeling, finite element analysis (FEA), and other relevant engineering tools.
- Certifications: Professional Engineering license (PEO) and/or PMP would be considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Regulatory Standards: In-depth knowledge of nuclear regulatory standards, codes (such as ASME, ASTM), and industry best practices.
- Skills: Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills. Ability to work under pressure in high-stakes environments with a strong focus above all on safety.
