About the role The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and will be a key member of the Executive Leadership Team at Brighter Super. As CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, financial operations, and performance of the fund. In collaboration with the Executive Team, you will lead the delivery of financial modelling, reporting, and investment operations to support the fund’s growth, while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation.In this role, you will support the Board Finance and Audit Subcommittee and play an integral role in financial governance, compliance, and risk management. Your primary focus will be on financial strategy, modelling, and analysis to ensure the fund achieves its long-term sustainability and member outcome goals. You will take the lead in driving cost control, commerciality, and operational efficiency across the organisation while safeguarding its overall financial health. Additionally, as CFO, you will place significant emphasis on managing and cultivating professional relationships with key outsourcing providers, including the fund’s custodian, actuary, new external auditor and other specialised service partners. Within Brighter Super’s predominantly outsourced operating model, these relationships are pivotal in aligning service delivery with the fund’s strategic objective. As CFO, you will bring strong technical expertise, particularly in accounting, financial modelling, and financial reporting. You will be comfortable with change, able to work at pace, and capable of navigating and adapting to an evolving environment. Your strategic insight and commercial nous will enable you to effectively balance competing priorities while maintaining a focus on financial stability and growth. Key Responsibilities Lead the financial strategy for Brighter Super, ensuring alignment with member outcome goals and long-term sustainability. Develop and implement a three-year rolling financial plan that includes accurate financial modelling and scenario analysis. Deliver accurate and timely statutory financial reporting to ASIC, ATO, and APRA while maintaining robust internal controls and financial reporting frameworks. Working with the custodian, deliver investment operations, including overseeing unit pricing, providing performance reporting, undertaking operational due diligence and monitoring mandate compliance and asset valuation. Oversee cost control and develop competitive fee structures that prioritise members' financial interests while ensuring Brighter Super's growth. Lead collaboration across the Executive Team, Board, and external suppliers to drive financial performance and strategy. Manage and support the Board Finance and Audit Subcommittee with high-quality reporting and insight into financial matters. Contribute to the governance and regulatory compliance processes, ensuring the fund meets industry standards and legal requirements. Lead and manage the Finance Division, ensuring alignment with Brighter Super’s values and fostering a high-performing, collaborative culture. Manage financial relationships with key suppliers, ensuring service delivery aligns with Brighter Super's strategic objectives. Assess and execute merger and acquisition opportunities, supporting Brighter Super’s strategic growth in a sustainable manner. The Person To be successful in this role, you will be a dynamic and strategic leader with a proven track record as a CFO, ideally from a regulated industry (such as superannuation, insurance, or another financial services or large-scale regulated environment). While experience in financial services is beneficial, candidates with experience in other regulated industries are encouraged to apply, provided candidates can demonstrate the ability to govern and lead financial functions within a complex, highly regulated environment.You will have demonstrated expertise in financial modelling, reporting, and governance, and will have a hands-on approach to managing cost control and efficiency across a growing organisation.You will bring a strong commercial mindset, with the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes and drive value creation. Your ability to manage and lead teams, foster collaboration across departments, and challenge the status quo will be key to your success. You should be adept at distilling complex financial issues into clear, actionable insights, and be comfortable working at pace and adapting to change. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, particularly in managing relationships with internal teams, the Board, and external suppliers.The ideal candidate will be an experienced people leader, capable of inspiring trust and fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. You will hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant field and possess CA/CPA qualifications. You will also bring an ability to work seamlessly across different divisions, always with a focus on achieving Brighter Super’s overarching goal of improving financial outcomes for its members.
