Job Overview The Camp Manager, North Operations plays a critical role in ensuring the success of Camp Bonaventure by fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for campers, staff, and volunteers. This leadership role involves supervising staff, maintaining high standards for programming, and ensuring safety and quality across all operations. Duties/Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Supervision: Ensure quality staffing for Counsellor positions, provide supervision and feedback for Camp Supervisors, and provide training to ensure all staff are knowledgeable in Between Friends Policies and Procedures.
- Camp Support & Safety: Be the primary emergency contact on site, oversee the maintenance and upkeep of Camp, and conduct safety meetings with all staff daily.
- Communication & Collaboration: Serve as the primary contact for onsite visitors (subcontractors, volunteer groups, corporate groups, etc) as well as the primary contact for families and caregivers regarding questions or concerns regarding Camp. This role will also work closely with the South Operations Manager, Membership Manager, and Youth Program Coordinator.
- Programming & Camper Engagement: Ensure all program activities are planned with the highest standard of quality and safety; this will include but is not limited to age-appropriate activities, a variety of experiences, and adaptability to different abilities. This role will work to promote an inclusive and open environment and may be required to assist with personal care including changes and lifts and transfers.
- Operations & Logistics: Confirm Counsellor hours weekly, uphold Between Friends Policies, follow up with staff when required, procure all general camp supplies and refreshments.
- Fun: You look for ways to incorporate excitement and joy into day-to-day experiences. Previous experience working at camps is considered an asset.
- Intentional: Your actions are purposeful and value-driven. You are a direct and clear communicator. You have previous experience working with people with disabilities and the ability to quickly and independently solve problems in high-stress situations.
- Caring: You welcome and celebrate people with empathy and dignity. You value working with individuals to create adaptations and modifications to ensure an inclusive experience for all. This includes providing support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support.
- Easeful: You strive to create accessible and inclusive spaces that remove barriers to access. You have experience adapting activities and programming to meet the needs of everyone. Previous experience developing and implementing programming is required. Access to your own vehicle during working hours is necessary.
- Safe: You value creating and maintaining safe spaces to promote inclusion and fun! Must be over the age of 18. Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search and an Intervention Record Check completed by Alberta Human Services. Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification prior to the start date.
- This role requires flexibility in terms of working hours from the staff member to effectively support staff and program members.
- Between April and June, this role will work in-person at the Calgary Between Friends Office or Camp Bonaventure - Sandy Beach for a minimum of 3 days a week, with remote work available for a maximum of 2 days a week.
- Between June and August, this role will work in-person at Camp Bonaventure - Thorncliffe for all contracted hours.
- This role is expected to work a minimum of 40 hours a week.
- Camp Senior Team training begins April 28, 2025, though this position may start as early as April 1, 2025.
- Camp Wide Training occurs June 13, 2025 - June 27, 2025.
- Camp Bonaventure runs from June 30, 2025 - August 22, 2025, excluding Statutory Holidays.
- Camp Senior Team will work an additional week after Camp to work on wrap-up administration, ending August 29, 2025.
- Must be above 18 years old.
- Must pass a Screening Process including a Backcheck search and an Intervention Record Check completed by the Government of Alberta.
- Must be able to provide proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification prior to the start date.
- Minimum one to two (1-2) years of experience in a leadership role.
- High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED).
- Current enrollment or completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Special Education, Public Health, Rehabilitation Counseling, Psychology, or related field is considered an asset.
- Experience in managing crisis situations in a team setting.
- Able to adapt to changing circumstances, participant needs, and organizational goals. Flexibility is especially important in non-profit work, where priorities and resources may shift.
- Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support.
- Experience in a supervisory role and/or summer camp work is an asset.
- Previous experience working with people with disabilities is an asset.
- Previous experience developing and implementing programming is an asset.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Passion for the mission of supporting persons with disabilities.
