The Design & Development Lead is responsible for the leadership and management of the Training Design and Development process across the Technical Institute’s English, Mathematics, Science, and vocational training programs. Additionally, the role will own the design, continuous development, and improvement of all training material, peripheral material (i.e., Training Management Plan (TMP)), and training devices and media. The goal is to facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge, skills, and abilities in an effective and appealing manner by creating engaging and innovative education material, using sound instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAT) and current technologies (digital dashboards and LMS), whilst ensuring all solutions are delivered to time, quality, and cost expectations. The delivery of the Technical Institute’s training material requires a close working relationship with the Academic and Engineering Chief Instructors, the Standards, Assessment, and Product Safety Lead, as well as the customer, proactively engaging to determine the requirement aligned to the Contracted TI Training Pipeline. The Design & Development Lead will engage with the assurance team and support communication with external providers (BAE Systems and City and Guilds), ensuring that all training developed is fully compliant and fit for purpose, meeting the required contracted training requirements whilst exploring opportunities for a more comprehensive higher training solution. This will be a demanding role, with tight deadlines and complex challenges. You will be at the heart of the success of all training delivery by the company through the development of effective and efficient training content that delivers an outstanding training experience to our customers.
Responsibilities Of The Course Design And Development Lead Include:
- Coordinate through expertise, the design and development of all training material.
- In conjunction with the Standards and Assessment Leads, provide quality assurance of instructional products to help decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments to ensure compliance with agreed delivery standards.
- Set up and ensure the use of best practices for the design and development of learning and delivery strategies including instructor and student aid memoirs, learning activities, job-aids, storyboards, video scripts, design documents, video learning modules, pre-work, post-work, and train-the-trainer materials to facilitate learning, promote behavioral change, and drive organizational performance goals by applying sound instructional design and practices while accommodating adult learning styles.
- Support the creation of engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
- Support the necessary project Engineering Life Cycle (ELC) and Life Cycle Management (LCM) reviews to schedule.
- Design concepts in accordance with required branding and configuration requirements.
- Training and mentoring of Courseware Design and Development staff utilizing applicable methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAT).
- Provide expert guidance to instructors on the implementation and management of the Systems Approach to Training (SAT) processes as it relates to their delivery.
- Configuration control of engineering and training courseware documentation.
- Perform quality checks of produced course content.
- Work with the LMS Administrator to set up appropriate data strategies to provide a comprehensive data set that informs performance reviews.

Requirements
Essential:- Educated to bachelor’s degree or equivalent standard/experience or hold appropriate military qualifications.
- A recognized formal instructor qualification (L4 or above) or equivalent experience.
- Proven delivery and leadership experience of delivering and harvesting a Continuous Improvement culture.
- Hold an EQA/IQA qualification and have conducted either, or be willing to work towards gaining the qualification on appointment.
- Fluent in English (minimum IELTS 7.0/CEFR C1 for non-native English speaking post holder).
- Proof of working in a design and development environment with significant working knowledge of Curriculum Design and Development processes and procedures.
- Minimum 5 years teaching/instructional experience with proof of managing the development of courseware and instructional media in a training institution.
- A strong and proven knowledge of Systems Approach to Training (SAT) or Instructional Systems Development (ISD).
- Ability to communicate with judgement, diplomacy, and tact with clients from different cultures.
- Strong IT skills (including Microsoft Office Suite and database experience).
- Experience in resolving complex project problems and responding positively to challenges and change whilst managing customer expectations in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to react quickly and make rapid but considered decisions when required.

- Merrill's Principles of Instruction.
- A functional and working knowledge of existing Learning Management System (LMS – Fusion).
- A detailed understanding and awareness of external Academic accreditation and standards requirements through City & Guilds.
- Commercial and Financial awareness in a contract delivery operation.
