About the Organisation The team at Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty are driving big changes to meet growing demand. They know financial and digital innovation is key to their evolution, so this role is mission critical. The Head of Finance and Digital wears a few hats but these are the biggies:
  • Designing a digital strategy that drives efficiencies and supports an ambitious new approach to delivering cancer support services in the community.
  • Providing overarching financial leadership underpinning sustainable growth.
  • Leading a small team focused on finance and digital while overseeing operational portfolios like fleet, property and facilities.
Cancer Society Waikato/Bay of Plenty is a charitable organisation on a mission to ensure nobody goes through cancer alone. While connected to Cancer Society New Zealand, operationally they are an independent entity, and their home base is the Cancer Society Lion’s Lodge in Hamilton. Their core services are of the caring variety which tend to fly under the radar until a cancer diagnosis hits close to home. They provide transport and accommodation (at the Lodge) to those who need to travel for cancer treatment. They also run support groups, deliver wellbeing services and provide wayfinding advice to anybody staring down the barrel of a cancer diagnosis, and their families. They rely largely on a volunteer workforce and are especially proud of the community they’ve created, which people on a cancer journey can tap into at any time. Demand for their services are increasing, year on year and they’ve always evolving to ensure they’re reaching the most people in ways that make the most difference. About the Role This senior leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and innovate. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Head of Finance and Digital oversees critical functions, including financial management, digital strategy, and business operations. Key responsibilities include:
  • Financial Leadership : Manage budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and risk management while ensuring compliance with New Zealand accounting standards.
  • Digital Innovation : Drive the development and execution of a digital strategy to meet the needs of our community, unlock powerful data and insights and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Operational Excellence : Oversee property, facilities, fleet management, and vendor relationships, ensuring seamless business operations.
  • Team Leadership : Build and develop a high-performing Finance and Digital team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Skills and Experience We’re seeking an experienced leader with:
  • A proven track record in financial leadership, digital transformation, and operational management.
  • High level of commercial nous, with the ability to balance strategic vision and hands-on execution.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Tertiary qualifications in finance, accounting, or a related field (CA or CPA certification preferred). A background in Computer science / software engineering is also highly desirable.
