This new team reflects Wellington City Council's commitment to addressing the challenges of a growing and dynamic central city, fostering a safer environment, and ensuring our streets remain welcoming and vibrant for everyone. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about being part of a high-performing team that models excellence in community work and stakeholder engagement . As an Urban Liaison Officer, you'll be working with a group of motivated, collaborative professionals committed to delivering the best outcomes for our city. At the heart of this effort, you will help implement targeted safety interventions, build meaningful connections with the community, and work collaboratively to address safety concerns in a proactive and coordinated way. This is your opportunity to help set a standard for outstanding community engagement while playing a central role in delivering the goals of the City Safety Plan and creating a safer, more inclusive city for all. This is an operational role which will provide support across Courtenay Place and the CBD. This approach ensures our team is visible and available when it matters most, supporting the community during peak activity hours and maintaining a consistent presence across the city. Hours of work covered by the team will be Sunday -Wednesday from 7am - 8.30pm and Thursday - Saturday 7am - 10.30pm. You will work varied days and hours on a set roster which includes a minimum of two consecutive days off per week. What you'll do As an Urban Liaison Officer, you will:

• Be a visible, trusted presence in Pōneke's CBD, building relationships with diverse communities, including vulnerable individuals and local businesses
• Collaborate with Council teams, community organisations, and Police to address safety and well-being issues
• Proactively engage with stakeholders to find solutions to city safety concerns.
• Enforce Council by-laws when required, addressing anti-social behaviour and public safety issues with professionalism and fairness
• Write clear, concise reports and contribute to the Council's efforts to improve safety and well-being across the city

What we're looking for We're seeking community-focused individuals with:

• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to adapt to diverse people and situations
• A genuine passion for helping others, coupled with the confidence to enforce by-laws when necessary
• Empathy, professionalism, and fairness in decision-making
• Experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, curious mindset
• High-level literacy and report-writing abilities

Experience in fields such as social work, law enforcement, education, or community services is highly valued. We are looking to appoint between $74,196 - $87,289 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience, and 5 weeks annual leave. About us We're Working for Wellington.
