Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the deck department as a Head of Department and Master's deputy. Their duties will include: Ensuring the implementation of safe cargo operations and related safety measures; Liaising with shore authorities to maintain awareness of the Safety Management System; Overseeing deck crew adherence to company procedures and promoting safe working practices; Identifying potential hazards associated with deck operations and advising the Master accordingly; Training junior officers and ratings on relevant QHSSE and shipboard procedures; Performing stability calculations for cargo and ballasting; Notifying the Master of any defects that may affect the ship's safety and structural integrity; Assigning roles and responsibilities to Deck Officers and Ratings in line with the Safety Management System; Investigating non-conformances and implementing corrective actions with the Master. The ideal candidate must possess: A Certificate of Competency (Deck) Class 2; At least 3 years of experience as a Chief Mate onboard a container vessel.
