Duties & Responsibilities

ENVIRONMENT: A proactive company specializing in cost-effective and innovative business solutions, located in KwaZulu-Natal, is currently in search of an Infrastructure Engineer. The role entails overseeing the continuous maintenance and support of the organization's server, network infrastructure, and end-user IT equipment. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, possessing a deep understanding of the company's servers, networks, and related hardware to ensure seamless support for essential software applications crucial for ongoing operations. While a postgraduate degree or diploma would be advantageous, a minimum of 2 years of experience in Desktop Support is required. Additionally, relevant certifications such as VMWare (VCP), HyperV (MCP), MCSE, MCSD, Exchange, or Azure Fundamentals are highly desirable. DUTIES: Cloud and On-prem Servers:
  • Maintenance of physical servers, racking, power management and cabling.
  • Windows Server deployment and maintenance 2016+.
  • Active Directory and Group Policy deployment, planning and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 Online maintenance.
  • Microsoft Intune and Endpoint.
  • Office 365 software suite deployment and maintenance.
  • Office 365 mail administration.
  • Azure Virtual Desktop maintenance and rollout.
  • Azure Platform understanding, maintenance and improvement.
  • File server permissions and sharing.
  • DHCP and DNS Configuration and management.
  • 3rd Party software management and updates.
  • Windows server and desktop update administration, testing and deployment.
  • Physical maintenance of all remote systems and servers at DR sites and Datacentres.
  • Infrastructure documentation and network diagram upkeep.
  • Anti-Virus Cloud services and end-user installation, configuration, reporting and management.
  • Hardware and software Asset management.
  • Environmental and proactive hardware checking.
  • Creation and maintenance of IT policies and procedures.
  • Cloud and On-prem license management and deployment.
  • Mimecast administration – mail archive and security.
Network and Security:
  • Installation and administration of physical switches.
  • Firewall understanding and basic administration (FortiGate).
  • Infrastructure and Connectivity planning.
  • Virtual Private Network configuration and understanding.
  • SSL Certificate knowledge.
  • Cloud IP Routing Service knowledge (Cloudflare).
  • Web server and DMZ knowledge.
  • Vulnerability testing and patching of systems.
  • Wireless infrastructure installation, configuration and management.
  • PRTG Monitoring and maintenance – Reporting and proactive.
Telephony:
  • Maintenance and support of the hardware supporting the telephony servers.
  • Management and support of the telephony systems with their telephony partners.
Desktop:
  • Setup and provision of desktops, notebooks and thin clients.
  • Management and planning of hardware to support end-users.
  • Desktop support for company users (escalations and overflow).
  • Responsible for ordering, distributing, and monitoring the use of printer toner and cartridges.
  • Printer management, installation and configuration.
  • Biometrics management.
  • Hardware and Software vendor management.
  • Communication with hardware suppliers in collaboration with seniors.
  • Onboarding and management of Microsoft Intune and Endpoint Defender services.
Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP):
  • Disaster Recovery awareness – backup, recovery, documentation, and testing.
  • Business Continuity Planning (BCP) documentation.
People:
  • Assistance with training and mentoring of junior infrastructure staff.
  • Co-ordination and management of the desktop support team.
  • Professional and empathetic toward business unit.
  • Assist with basic IT training to empower the team to resolve common issues themselves.
Training:
  • General ad hoc IT training to end users when required.
REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours:
  • Firewall Knowledge.
  • Understanding VPN and Networking.
  • Knowledge of WAN environments.
  • Backup Support knowledge.
  • Microsoft Intune deployment, management and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Endpoint deployment, management and maintenance.
  • Microsoft Exchange and Office 365 implementation, configuration and maintenance.
  • Storage and SAN understanding.
  • Manage all on premise and cloud licensing for end users and servers.
  • Web hosting administration.
  • Extensive DNS Knowledge.
Education / Experience:
  • Matric.
  • Minimum of 2 years Desktop Support experience.
  • Relevant certification (examples: VMWare (VCP), HyperV (MCP), MCSE, MCSD, Exchange, Azure Fundamentals).
  • Must have 3 years of Network administration in the areas of design, implementation, capacity planning, maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of Virtualisation.
  • Experience with Networking problem determination, capacity planning and root cause analysis.
  • Working experience with virtualisation administration and support beneficial.
  • Working experience with Microsoft Exchange and Office365 administration and support beneficial.
  • Working experience with On-premise Firewall products beneficial.
  • Working experience with Switches and Routers.
