ACME Group | Civil Design Engineer
Job details
Job Summary:The Manager of Civil Engineering (Design) will play a pivotal role in leading the civil engineering design activities for renewable energy projects. This position will primarily focus on the design of infrastructure for renewable energy facilities, ensuring that all civil engineering solutions are efficient, sustainable, and meet both project requirements and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities:Civil Engineering Design Leadership:Lead and manage the design of civil engineering systems for renewable energy projects, focusing on solar and wind farm infrastructure, including site layout, foundations, access roads, stormwater management, and grading.Develop detailed civil engineering design drawings and specifications, ensuring that all components comply with industry standards, local codes, and environmental regulations.Oversee the conceptual and detailed design of project sites, working closely with the electrical, mechanical, and project management teams to ensure the civil design integrates seamlessly with other disciplines.Design Optimization & Innovation:Drive the optimization of civil designs, ensuring cost-effective, sustainable solutions while meeting project requirements such as land use, environmental impact, and construction feasibility.Apply innovative design methodologies to enhance the efficiency of civil infrastructure, minimizing environmental impact and improving constructability.Develop and explore alternative designs and approaches to improve the overall performance, cost, and longevity of renewable energy assets.Geotechnical and Structural Design:Lead the design of foundations and other structural elements for renewable energy systems, taking into account the geotechnical characteristics of the site and environmental factors such as wind, seismic loads, and soil conditions.Collaborate with geotechnical engineers to integrate subsurface data into the design of foundations, ensuring stability and cost-effectiveness.Ensure that structural designs account for the specific requirements of renewable energy technologies (e.g., wind turbines, solar panels).Site Development and Layout Design:Oversee the preparation of site layouts for renewable energy projects, ensuring that designs maximize land use and optimize the installation of renewable energy systems while minimizing environmental and community impacts.Design access roads, site grading, drainage systems, and other infrastructure elements to support construction and long-term operations of renewable energy plants.Incorporate sustainable design practices into all site planning activities, focusing on minimizing earthwork and improving stormwater management and habitat preservation.Regulatory Compliance and Permitting:Ensure that all designs comply with local, national, and international regulatory requirements, including environmental, zoning, and safety standards.Prepare design documentation to support permitting processes and regulatory approvals, including environmental impact assessments and planning documents.Stay current with changes in local regulations and industry standards to ensure ongoing compliance in civil design practices.Quality Control and Assurance:Implement quality control processes to ensure all civil engineering design deliverables meet the required standards of accuracy, completeness, and compliance.Conduct design reviews, coordinate with peer engineers, and verify that designs are free of errors and align with project specifications.Identify potential design issues early and propose solutions that minimize delays during the construction phase.Cost Control and Value Engineering:Support the estimation of civil engineering costs during the design phase and ensure that designs are developed within budget constraints.Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost reduction without compromising the integrity or safety of the design.Collaborate with procurement and construction teams to ensure designs are constructible within budgetary limits and with minimal risk.Qualifications:Education: Diploma/Bachelor's degree in civil engineering (Master's degree preferred).Experience: 10+ years of civil engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on the design aspects of renewable energy projects, particularly in the solar or wind sectors.
