The Role The Principal Power Systems Engineer will play an integral part in a team of highly skilled specialists that ‘bring ideas to life’ for our clients across all types of energy infrastructure. This includes modelling and performance assessment of renewable energy zones, onshore and offshore wind farms, solar farms, battery energy storage systems and synchronous condensers, network planning for transmission and distribution systems, commercial research and development activities, and providing technical advice to a wide range of national and international stakeholders including network owners, system operators, developers, original equipment manufacturers, governments and regulatory and financial institutions. What Will You Do?
- Lead and develop a team of Power Systems Engineers to deliver superior project outcomes for clients
- Undertake power systems studies, including grid-connection, network planning, system strength impact assessment and research and development.
- Develop wide-area network and individual equipment models in a range of simulation tools and in particular PSSE and PSCAD/EMTDC
- Perform harmonic assessment and harmonic filter design studies
- Conduct control system tuning of inverter-based resources including both the grid-forming and grid-following inverters
- Undertake generator performance standards compliance testing, model validation (R2) testing, and generator registration with AEMO, including liaising with site-based personnel during onsite commissioning.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering and of power systems theory relating to electricity transmission, distribution and generation and associated control and protection principles will be required for this role.
- Experience in power system modelling tools in particular with PSCAD and PSS/E will support your success in this role.
- Site and practical experience in a relevant area are also a plus for this role as is experience in power system model development, coding, scripting and automation, and experience in dynamic modelling using PowerFactory.
