Role overview We are looking to recruit a Senior VAT Consultant with an extensive background in VAT and indirect tax. The role is focused on implementation and compliance for our clients. The position is heavily client-facing, working towards the expansion of the service line. The successful candidate must be driven to succeed, available for frequent travel, give seminars/training, and undertake a variety of VAT consultancy services in an efficient and professional manner. Key responsibilities

  1. Working both independently and alongside partners and the VAT Team to promote and manage the practice and VAT Consultancy services to the firm.
  2. Manage and facilitate routine VAT seminars to clients and potential clients.
  3. Prepare technical VAT documents and communications for clients.
  4. Frequent travel to client sites for VAT work/meetings.
  5. Work with finance and commercial teams to support billing arrangements. Provide internal and external training to develop the team and clients.
  6. Provide VAT consultancy services to clients such as Outputs and Inputs Tax reviews and compliance; Contract reviews; and any ad-hoc work required by clients to meet their VAT statutory obligations.
  7. Support the expansion of VAT Consultancy Services and generate income through the achievement of sales targets.
Essential skills
  1. Comprehensive experience of the VAT guidelines and regulations in the UAE.
  2. Experience in dealing with client demands and requests.
  3. Good communication, coaching, and presentation skills.
  4. Ability to make well-informed decisions on complex raw data complying with relevant legislation.
  5. Good commercial mind to make value judgments and recognize potential growth opportunities.
  6. Excellent IT skills – particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
  7. Driving license and ability to travel across the UAE to client sites.
  8. Proven track record in meeting and exceeding sales targets.
  9. Assist with evaluating the tax effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions, and business proposals.
  10. Work with the intercompany accounting team to ensure indirect tax requirements are implemented.
  11. Drive and implement changes required to indirect tax compliance processes due to changes in indirect tax legislation.
  12. Identify cash flow and tax benefits related to indirect taxes for various business units.
Desired Candidate Profile
  1. Knowledge in other areas of VAT and Tax.
  2. Knowledge of different ERP systems.
Qualifications
  1. 3+ years progressive tax experience including a minimum of 1-2 years Indirect tax experience working in International Indirect tax.
  2. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration; VAT Diploma is a plus.
  3. Progressive tax experience with some exposure to international transactional taxes in a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or a multinational corporation.
  4. Experience and knowledge with UAE and International Indirect tax is required.
  5. Experience managing a transactional tax compliance function.
  6. Experience and knowledge in IFRS and tax regulations, laws, and standards.
  7. Advanced data analytics skills (including proficiency in Excel).
  8. Ability to understand and work with ERP systems.
  9. Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interface with senior management.
  10. Ability to work independently with limited general supervision, effectively prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  11. Ability to lead international tax compliance through hiring and development.
  12. Professional certification in taxation and accounting.
